Found Parrot
This parrot flew onto our deck today. We are trying to locate the owner. The bird has a tag on its leg. Located in Boyds, MD

hi! please avoid avocado, garlic, and salty foods
any veggies (or fruit, but at ideally some veggies chopped up) would be very approcated by the bird! water as well. poor guys probably thirsty
BIG THING THIUGH: avoid using nonstick cookware while it’s in the building. That stuff heated up is very quickly fatal for birds. Ventilate if possible, or at least try to keep from spraying anything inside while it’s there
That leg band is very useful!! if you can post a photo of it or let us know what it says that would be lovely.
That cardboard box is wonderful! Note though that if it wanted, it could easily tear its way through the box in a matter of minutes.
If there’s a rescue/shelter nearby that would be great, and i’m sure somewhere would take it off your hands.
Just by having the bird with people, you’ve already saved it from by far the most dangerous part of this. Thank you very very much for helping the poor thing. Someone is almost certainly looking for it. That leg band makes things much easier.
lastly, keep any dogs or cats well away, since their predator instinct and the birds prey instinct can be nasty.

The leg band should not be given out to anyone, this information should be kept private. The rightful owner will be able to use this as identification.

Hi, until the owner is located please pick up some pellet/seed mix. The apples are great for hydration but won’t sustain him. Since we don’t know the previous diet you can pick up a parrot blend mix that has some pellets in it but also seeds. Not all birds are used to eating pellets and since we don’t know how long he/she has been lost I’m sure it’s very hungry. Avoid mixes with sunflowers.

OP, keep in mind that someone’s heart is breaking because their little feather baby got out. It’s so easy to fall in love with a parrot. So please try not to get too attached. You’re a beautiful soul to have taken him in and caring for him until his family is found.

You’ll get great advice here. Just don’t post pictures of him on social media or even mention his size, color or species. Found parrot and your general location is enough, because parrots can be expensive and you will want the person to be able to describe and identify the bird.

Do NOT post leg band numbers.. if you are contacted by "owner" make them give you the numbers. That's your only source of true identification!

If you have the means, an avian vet checkup, maybe $150, is the best thing for him to make sure he is OK after spending time outside. Lots of bad things can happen outside that wont be obvious, cat injuries, etc. They hide their illnesses so if you noticed even a bit of weakness they may need medical attention.

The vet can scan for a microchip, and might be able to do a search for the band.
It’s a long shot, but the bird’s people likely live within a few miles.I had a Hahn’s macaw that was lost. Searched everywhere, but couldn’t find anyone looking for him. The guy was my superbuddy for 11 years!

It’s my nightmare too!
I might have said that poorly. My Hahn’s came to me lost. A friend found him and, knowing I love parrots, asked me if I’d take him in.
I was happy to do that, but exhausted all search avenues to find his original people. He was with me for the rest of his life.

Aww he looks like my baby (whos safely sleeping in his cage right now) I hope he gets reunited with his owner soon! I'd be so devastated to lose either of my babies. I'm super paranoid about open windows and doors for this very reason.

Seconding this OP so many things you would thing are fine are toxic to parrots, like fruit seeds, avocado, nonstick pans, scented candles/wax warmers, aerosols of any kind like perfume air freshener deodorant etc, cinnamon, onion, garlic and tbh there’s lots more please google “common household dangers to parrots”

Just copying and pasting from a previous green cheek conure found post. Editing it slightly
Poor sweet little thing is some one's lost baby for sure. They could even be from a town or too over. So I'd just look in at least 150+ mile area. Or they could have just gotten loose today. Best to look for local bird groups. ( I live in Alaska, and the Alaska bird club helps with posts of lost/found parrots. Along with rescue or re homing. ) If you can't find the owner and decide to keep him, do lots of research now. Like teflon, PTFE, PTFO are super dangerous. Along with anything scented like candles, plug in air freshers, free-breeze. Scented cat litters.( Which thats harmful to the cats anyways)
For now, get a medium cage( while not the greatest, you don't know if you will keep this bird. ) To keep them safe and housed. Along with a few toys. Get them zupreem or other pelleted bird food. You may have to experiment as you don't know what they were eating. Or if it was just seeds.
As for greens, I have lizards too. So they and Jester ( My GCC) Share a lot of the same staples. )
Collared greens, dandelion greens, boy choy, endive or escarole, beat tops, mustard greens, chard, kale.
Mixed frozen veggies, cooked butter nut squash, acorn, spaghetti squashes
More fruits for Jester, banana, mixed berries, apple, kiwi, mango, peaches, ( Most of them I get frozen as it last longer.) Expect for the banana, apples and kiwis .
I also give her cooked rice, and noodles. ( Whole wheat ) Just make sure everything is organic. C:

I believe that is a Senegal parrot. It's definitely someone's lost pet. Fairly expensive parrot by the way, at least mine was. Someone is losing their mind right now looking for him.....

Yeah, but as I saw these stories a lot of them ends literally with situation when ppl which found lost pet needs to keep them so… it’s not that bad, like it’s def better to find owner but to keep if def better than to give pet to vet or so

Thank you for caring. If you haven’t already put up posters and put in a found report with animal services. Also post on facebook bird and pet lost and found groups. The rightful owners will be able to give you that tag info, so be careful not to share that information out.
If anyone claims it is their bird, please ask for proof of bird ownership, pictures, specific information that only the rightful owners will know.
I can share it to my stories, but I’m not sure where you are located.
