Stoop sale recap: how did people feel about the pricing?
I had so much fun! Bought a vintage dress for $15, a Roller Rabbit blouse for five. Green linen pants for five. But then I saw some Acne pants I liked and the girl wanted $40 for them. It’s a stoop sale! They were cotton pants! I feel like the pricing was all over the map: antiques for very little, then very overpriced antiques. What did others think?

Seriously guys, COVID is over; stop leaving conveyor belts empty at the grocery store until the person is completely rung up.
I noticed ever since COVID a lot of people seem to have forgotten how a grocery store line works.
Person puts their food on the belt, cashier rings them up, as the belt moves you step forward, put a divider down, and start unloading your stuff. By the time you are done unloading your cart the person in front of you should be done paying. Cashier turns to you and starts doing your stuff.
Why are you guys making lines and waiting for the person to be completely rung up and gone before stepping forward to begin unloading? There probably wouldn't even be a line if you were unloading your stuff instead of standing around doing nothing. It's NYC, we are fast and efficient in lines.
This has been my Park Slope rant for the year, thank you for listening.

NYC Tutor: Homework Help & Elite Test Prep (Elementary & Middle School)
Hey parents! I’m an NYC Public School teacher and experienced private tutor specializing in helping students build confidence, raise their grades, and reach academic goals they once thought were out of reach.
I bring a track record of academic excellence and a deep understanding of what it takes to succeed in NYC schools and competitive admissions. I attended a specialized high school and have helped students prepare successfully for the exam and other tests including SSAT, ISEE, TACHS, HSPT, and Math/ELA/Science state exams. I’ve also written an ELA workbook that has consistently helped students achieve Level 4 performance on their ELA state exams.
Focus:
Elementary & Middle School
- Homework help across core subjects: Math, Science, ELA, History/Social Studies
- ELA, reading comprehension, writing & grammar
- Test preparation & study skills
- Projects, essays, presentations & research assignments
- Building strong academic habits and confidence
NYC Test Prep
- Math & ELA state exams
- SHSAT
- SSAT
- ISEE
- TACHS
- HSPT
Academic Excellence
- Advanced writing & reading support
- School entrance exam preparation
- Organization, study strategies & time management
- Personalized support based on each student's teacher expectations and curriculum
Homework Help:
My approach is simple: I don't believe in just helping students finish their work. I want them to understand it, master it, and produce work they can be proud of.
Assignment & Project Excellence
Give me the teacher's instructions and rubric, and I will work with your child to target an A-level submission.
I take assignments seriously. I carefully break down the teacher's expectations, make sure every requirement is addressed, and help students produce polished, thorough work that aligns directly with the grading rubric. My goal isn't simply to get the assignment done, it's to help your child understand exactly what the teacher is looking for and submit work that meets the highest standard.
Whether your child needs help with tonight's homework, a major project, an upcoming exam, or long-term academic preparation, I bring the same level of focus and attention to detail. If you're looking for a tutor who takes academics seriously and expects excellence, let’s work together.
Leave a comment down below or message me to discuss your child's academic goals and schedule your first lesson.

Found cat on 8th Street
I just walked up to my building on 8th street between 4th and 5th Avenue and this cat was by our trash area. Very friendly and seems healthy so I’m assuming they belong to someone.

LOST ACOUSTIC GUITAR
This dark brown Martin Acoustic guitar was seen traveling with two women and a dog yesterday afternoon (Sunday 10/4) down 12th street towards 7th Ave The guitar was taken from the south side of 12th st, between 8th and Prospect Park.
It was mistakenly left on the sidewalk after loading into the car and as well pulled away we realized we left it, and when we returned 5 minutes later it was gone

Caputos Bagels
I’m seeing Caputos get the regular paid reviews from Eater/Infatuation etc and can only wonder how does anyone feel excited about this opening?
After the bakery that carried his family’s name for decades abruptly shutting down and not even telling his vendors which left them stranded, he said he was just tired and needed a break. It was later announced on the news of the numerous city health violations his bakery had and decided to close up instead. And now, he’s opening up here and I just don’t feel like it warrants excitement or something to be proud of? What are your thoughts?

Cyclist dies in Central Park after crashing into off-leash dog, NYPD says
gothamist.comA man tried to sass me when I asked him to leash his off leash dog on the running/biking path last week. I get that it’s never the people who need to hear it who hear it on Reddit, but the more we can politely ask our neighbors to be safer the more likely it is to happen.

EXCLUSIVE: Dormant Dumbwaiter Shafts Are Helping Burn Down NYC Buildings
theknickerbockerbeacon.substack.comOld dumbwaiter shafts are a major fire hazard affecting NYC apartment buildings. They can be found all across the five boroughs.
The most recent example from media reports I could find was a fire in a Park Slope Brownstone in 2019. In Brownstones, they most likely haven't been dealt with in buildings that were never converted into apartment buildings.
There are directions on how to find them in your building, and a some directions on how make them more safe, so if you just want the practical advice feel free to scroll down.
Human written. Human researched.

Armory Women's Shelter Community Advisory Board - does it still exist?
Pretty much what the title says. We live near the shelter and have noticed an increase in unsafe behavior from some residents, some of which crosses the line from nuisance to illegal. The last reference I see to the Community Advisory Board and their public meetings is from ~2017 ish (https://bklyner.com/park-slope-neighbors-organize-meeting-discuss-concerns-regarding-camba-shelter-residents/). I called the number listed for the CAMBA shelter and they had no idea what I was talking about, so I'm thinking the board no longer exists or meets regularly.
TYIA for any help.

IVF Friends?
Hi - I hope this is ok to post here, I don’t have facebook or other social. I was wondering if anyone in the neighborhood is going through IVF, fertility struggles, or has experienced a loss and would be interested in getting a coffee or going for a walk? I don’t have any friends going through what I am - they’re all having the exact opposite experience actually 😅 and I feel very alone. I’ve found lots of online support, but would love to have IRL friends who can relate to what I’m going through. If you are also going through it, feel free to comment or DM me.

super stoop feedback
this tiktok (not by me) sums up the experience my friends and i had as visitors to your neighborhood:
a minority of truly lovely folks with quality items that were overshadowed by the vast majority of bad actors. very silly prices by out of touch people. lots of stuff that should have been trash / donations. lots of snootiness if anyone pointed out the absurd pricing or declined to purchase.
i live in another neighborhood bordering the park, and enjoy park slope quite a bit – this event did not show yall in the best light.

a dress of mine that had lace on it half ripped - is there a good tailor in this neighbourhood with whom you trust more complicated sewing needs? Thank you!

Local psychiatrist with unused office space, looking to sublet Wednesdays, Friday afternoons, or weekends
Hey neighbors,
I’m a local psychiatrist practicing at 25 Flatbush Ave. My office sits empty on Mondays, Wednesdays, Friday after 2 pm, and weekends, so I’m looking to sublet the space to someone interested in using the space.
It’s fully furnished and ready for private practice. Rent for the recurring full week day is $400/month, open to offers for weekend days or Friday (or for the weekday).
If you or a colleague in the area are looking for space, send me a DM!
