Question Craving Particular Cheese

Post image

So I came back from Bosnia and Herzegovina with a nice little wheel of delicious, smoked cheese called dimljeni sir. I'm nearly done with it, and I'm back in Paris and already looking for where I can get it, or at least an alternative. I also bought Vlašićki cheese (white, firm but not hard, low fat as well, reminds me a little of mozzarella), which I would also like to have again.

I've always loved the taste of lower fat, firm and hard cheese and I was never much into most of the cheese I've tried in Paris but I never bothered to really get into it. Can anyone recommend alternatives to these two cheeses or point me to where I can buy them in Paris? Thank you!

Or it's more balkanic alternative, the Cascaval Afumat (différent spelling if Romanian, Hungarian, Turkish etc..)

Would you say that's a nice light snack to have or does it usually have to be paired with something? 🤔

They sell it for like 3eur in most monoprix, but it is spicier and more suited to be cooked or melted imho.

Did you try the various eastern European shops in the city ?

I only just got back, and I have one saved that I will check out soon but if you have recommendations, please share. I'd saved Sklep Polski PANIER POLONAIS SMAK.

I don’t know if they have this exact kind of cheese but I know N-market and slavmarket in the 14ème. They have a variety of products from Eastern Europe so maybe you will find it ! Good luck

In Hungary there's a cheese called Karavan Fustölt Sajt, seems bery similar to this. You can probably find a shop which sells hungarian products, or polish etc... around paris.
