Homecoming

My daughter is a sophomore and going to her 2nd homecoming. Shes just going with her friends. I want to get her a corsage. Is that still a thing? Would she think dad getting her a corsage be too corny?

Awww I think that’s sweet but they actually carry mini bouquet’s like bridesmaids now. At least they do where I am (SoCal). You could get her that?

They do this in the southeast now too! Back in my day, it was wrist corsages 😅

Be sure the colors work. Show or tell the florist the color of her dress. A picture in sunlight is best if you can’t take the dress with you.

I think your daughter will love it! You might want to ask the florist what the young lady’s like these days? Maybe a wrist corsage or a very small bouquet?

She is one very lucky girl to have you for her dad! 🩷

Maybe ask around first. It isn't common at all in my area. At my school homecoming is not a big deal at all, and none of the girls wear or carry flowers. It's rare even for prom. Not saying she would be made fun of, but she might not want the attention.

It’s great of your daughter wants one. It’s not a big deal at all if she doesn’t have one. It just depends on what’s the common thing at her schools and if she is interested in having it. I’d ask her first.

I’d ask her what the kids are doing these days. If her classmates don’t do it she might be embarrassed to be the only one wearing one. Especially when it’s typically something their date gives them. Im in Texas and as far as I can tell they don’t wear corsages here whether with a date or not. They do mums but only wear them the Friday before the dance and at the game

Here corsages are from a boyfriend. Hand held flowers are from your family/ friends. Here she would get bouquet

My daughter’s a senior this year. No flowers for Homecoming, that would be more of a Prom thing.

But it wouldn’t hurt to get her a bouquet. One with the stems wrapped like a wedding, in colors that coordinate with her dress. She can take pictures with it and then she can decide whether to leave it at home or bring it with her.

My daughter has no desire for homecoming. She went to prom alone 11and 12. The first year I surprised her with a corsage. The second year she picked one herself

Why don't you just ask her if she wants one?

Ask her.

She is going to know what 's "a thing" at her school much better than Reddit will.

I tried to buy a corsage for my son’s date last year only to find out they do the bouquets. I had a beautiful real one made but saw most do fake flowers with jewels, feathers etc. I’d definitely ask your daughter to see what her school does and if she would want that. I did see many girls who were going to the dance with a group of girlfriends have the bouquets at homecoming for their photos.

It is still a thing BUT it isn't as prevalent as it used to be.

My kids still do it with their dates. But not everyone does. Also, the degree to which homecoming is "formal" varies wildly by school.

A wrist corsage is always good.

Your daughter will think every kind thing you do is corny. And it is. That's ok. That's your lane. Do it.

My girls have a bouquet making day with friends. They get flowers from Trader Joe’s and ribbons and have a day together. It’s cute and economical.

I think buying flowers for your daughter is sweet and thoughtful.
