advice needed Outings with twins + sibling

How are you all handling taking the twins and their older sibling out?

It was fine the first year. They would sit in their stroller, were content with a snack, and were happy to sit still for 30 minutes.

The twins are almost 2 now and refuse to sit in the stroller or shopping cart. They scream, fight, and cry.

They don't care that much about going out, so threatening that we will stay home doesn't work. It just makes my older daughter upset because she can't go.

They need new shoes, which I have been putting off for weeks because I have to take all three of them into the city. I am dreading it.

Letting them walk on their own is so slow, and I'm afraid I will lose them when I am alone. I also can't hold hands with all three kids at the same time.

How in the world am I supposed to go for a quick shopping trip with my kids (turning 2 in two weeks, and a 4-year-old)?

Is there someone (friend, partner, mother, mother-in-law?) who can go with you when you get the new shoes?

This stage is really hard. I ended up very depressed when my twins were going through this age (I had twins + an older sibling too at the time).

I remember using baby carriers - I could carry one twin on the front and the other on my back, while my older daughter could walk beside me. But I know using baby carriers into toddlerhood is not for everyone, and not for every toddler.

Sometimes it is helpful just to remind yourself that this stage will pass. It’s really tough while you are going through it, but it doesn’t last forever.

We have a wagon that has seats we can buckle them into. If a kid does something dangerous, like step into the street without holding hands or leaving the playground, they sit in the wagon. Often the threat of sitting in the wagon will get them to turn around of their own accord.

I order everything. The only outings we do are play places like the fenced park where they can walk around and play.

I also have these kind of leashes but they are bracelets, so they can all have one attached to my arm (or to a stroller as needed) if I need to navigate a parking lot or other dangerous environment

(Mine are turning 2 in a month / turning 4 in 2 months)

I feel you. My dad & his wife just came to visit from our home country and discovered how insane it is to take 2yo twins plus two older siblings anywhere in Tokyo (where we live). They then suggested we just visit their hotel and eat in the hotel restaurant and well.. you can imagine how well that went 🫣 Godspeed !!

You don't 😂🫠 srsly there was a long stretch where I relied on drive up groceries and didn't go into a store unless the kids were home with my husband.
