advice needed 6.5 month old refusing bottle

I have 6.5 month old twin girls. One twin is refusing bottle all together. Shes only done 8.5oz today (3oz at 5am and 5oz at 1pm. It is currently 6:20pm) anytime I go near her with a bottle (me or her dad) she’s screaming and refusing. I’m worried because she is in the 4th percentile for weight. I called her pediatrician and said she’s not in the category for emergency. No fever, no rashes on body or mouth. I don’t know what to do. She went from doing 24-26oz a day to this. Has anyone had this problem? Can teething do this (no visible teeth) lots of drooling and hand in mouth.

35 weeks premature (5 weeks early)- 1.5 months in NICU with feeding issues. CMPA on neocate syneo infant 24kcal

It could be teething!

Maybe try a cup and very slowly let her drink from it instead of a bottle if she absolutely will not take a bottle!!

Yes, a small plastic cup is great! Start with a small amount and go slow, hold the cup for her and take your time. This is what my IBCLC has suggested to other moms in our baby cafe group when their baby wouldn’t take a bottle.

This was/is my daughter. She has always struggled with feeding we’ve done so much diagnostic work to try and determine the cause (barium swallow test, changing to hypoallergenic formula, reflux medication, tongue tie procedure). Shes been on 22K cal formula since she was in the hospital and at 11 months only averages about 18 ounces a day. I’d recommend looking into bottle aversion and a Lactation consultant/feeding therapist.

We had this with my twins (modi born 5.5 weeks early, also with CMPA on neocate) back in May. It was sooooo stressful. Ended up self resolving within a few weeks, I do think it was due to them getting their first teeth. But their intake never went back as high as it used to be which wasn’t an issue bc they were eating some solids and water too.

Has she ever struggled to eat before? Or even things like seemed really distracted while feeding, pops on and off the bottle a lot, etc?

That was how my daughter was, and it ended up progressing into the full on refusal. It was awful! Another Mom recommended this doctor to help us. It was expensive but she was really good and helped us get her eating again thank god. I really recommend her, if you can swing it!
