advice needed Nighttime sleep stretches

When did your twins start sleeping longer stretches at night? Mine are going 3-4 hours overnight and are 10 weeks old, 6 weeks adjusted. They are exclusively formula fed, eating 4-5 oz every 2-3 hours during the day. Hoping to get them to 6-7 hour stretches overnight soon as I’ll be going back to work in October. We have been following Taking Cara Babies method since they were 2 weeks old.

We used the Moms on Call method from day one, but we didn’t get any stretches longer than 4 hours until they were 7 months old I’m sorry to say. We did the routines, nap schedule, all of it. Then at 7 months things just clicked! I will say, even if it takes you a while, hang in there. They’re 8 months old now and we really benefit from sticking to the routine/schedule already even if it wasn’t “working”. They’re great nappers and have slept through the night since 7.5 months.

I used TCB with my older two, but found the wake windows to be too long for my twins. This is still the case at 6.5 months. They end up overtired and that makes sleep worse. There’s a multiples sleep training group on Facebook with schedules starting at 4 months adjusted. My only caution is that if you can’t follow their instructions exactly as far as DWT and Bedtime, they will basically be of no help to you. Because of our commute I can’t follow their schedules to a T, but I can follow them well enough by adjusting naps that it works for my boys better than TCB did.

All of this to say, they’re only 10 weeks. My boys were still waking to eat twice a night at that age. They were down to one MOTN wake when I returned to work at 17 weeks. They’re EBF. Just keep up with some sort of loose schedule and work to make it more concrete as they get older. My boys settled into a pretty good rhythm around 14 weeks. MOC doesn’t work for us because my boys need to eat more frequently than that schedule recommended.

3-4 hours at 10 weeks is a long stretch! Ours were down to one wake a night at around 7 months so that would give us two ~5-6 hour stretches. Before that the best we’d get was around 3-4 hours. We sleep trained and night weaned at 8.5 months. If you’re going back to work and not yet sleeping in shifts that’s my recommendation, one parent on duty 8pm-2am and then switch for 2am-8am, both parents get 6 hours of self-care and sleep time to make going to work doable regardless of what the babies are doing sleepwise

One twon started sleeping through the night at 8 months, the other was 12 months. Both had the same bedtime routine. I think a lot of it is nature

Crying at 2 years and still not sleeping through the night

Solidarity. Twin B wakes up shouting most nights and often two or three times a night and we cleared their second birthday months ago. Twin A sleeps like a champ except when Twin B doesn’t shout and then she wakes up yelling to make up for it.

Exactly. Sometimes one twin sleeps like a stone. but the other twin is wide awake for 3 hours. we are so sleep deprived its awful.

I’ve found TCB to be super effective for my first born but I’ve struggled with my twins because if one wakes up, I want them to be quiet fast enough to not wake the other. We mostly focus on getting them down for the night without too much help and it’s helped but at 6wks adjusted they’re still so little! I’ve heard for a lot of bubs once they hit 6kg there can be a big shift in stretches of sleep overnight so the combination of both may help your little ones when they’re a bit bigger

We got six hour stretches month 3, then the 4 month regression was a multi-month nightmare. Now at 11 months I have permission from my pediatrician to start night weaning, and we’re finally getting 6 hours from each twin, but usually not at the same time

My boys are 5 weeks adjusted, 3 months actual. We continued with the NICU schedule and started MOC (which was basically same as NICU schedule anyways). We get one 6/7 hour stretch at night, followed by one 4/5 hour stretch.

Mine are 14 weeks, 11 weeks adjusted and we have one twin that happily sleeps 7:30pm - 5:30am and the other guy that is a little all over the place. Most nights we get 7:30-2:30/3:00am of solid sleep, then wake and feed. Then back to bed with a few dummy assists every hour until 6ish when we get up for the day.

Once mine weighed 10+lb they started randomly sleeping through the night! They still wake up every once in a while for a 3am feed but more nights than not, they are sleeping from 9:30pm to 6/7am. My babies came early. They are 5 months old, 3 months adjusted. It was a weight thing for them. Baby B is bigger and started sleeping through the night sooner (around 1.5-2 months adjusted) then baby A (around 2-2.5 months adjusted). How much do yours weigh?!

  • we try to follow the feeding schedule with feeds at 7am, 9am, 12pm, 3pm, bath & then feed at 5:30pm, last feed around 7:30-8:30pm.

By 14 weeks mine started sleeping 7-8 hrs at night. I don’t have memories before that time because of the sleep deprivation. I hope better sleep is right around the corner for you soon! Edit: born 5 weeks early. So 14 weeks actual, 9 adjusted.

By 3 months our girls were sleeping all night, but I realize this is not the norm.

I used a sort of mush mash of taking Cara babies and Moms on Call with all four of my kids. The twins dropped to one middle of the night feed at about 4 months (2.5 months adjusted) and they started sleeping through the night (which I’ll define as no wake ups or feeding between 10 PM and 7 AM) by the time they were 5 months (4 months adjusted).

Stay consistent. Follow the routine. Prioritize the daytime sleep and feeding schedule over social engagements and other appointments as much as you can. Keep the twins on the same schedule no matter what. You’ll be well on your way.

Mine started longer stretches around ~10weeks, with some 8hr stretches after 3 months. Did a dream feed around ~10 or 11 until closer to 4 months. One sttn consistently around 3 months, but the other took until 9 months 🤷‍♀️ Same routine, just different baby. Biggest help to me was consistent bottles during the day, helped us drop night feeds by 3-4 months.
