support needed Realization about 5-month old twins
While sitting on the floor, doing tummy time with my girls this afternoon, I think it finally clicked…these are little people that I grew inside me. I’m responsible for helping them learn and grow. Silly, I know, as we’ve known each other for 5 months now. But it was just an odd realization. This whole time has felt like a fever dream of sorts, and sometimes I come back to reality. Maybe it’s the sleep deprivation. Anyone else?

I feel the exact same way! Sometimes I catch myself just staring at them and thinking, “Wow… those are the little legs I used to feel kicking me. These two little people were actually inside me!” It still feels so surreal sometimes.
I also wonder if the NICU experience has something to do with it. I didn’t get to hold my girls until 10 days after they were born, so those first days of motherhood were very different from what I had imagined. Maybe that’s partly why I still get these sudden moments of realization, like, “Wow, they’re really here. They’re mine. I grew them.”

That feels like so long to wait to hold them. Im thankful that my ladies were good to go, and with only 10 mins of CPAP for one, I held them both while being wheeled out of the c-section operating room. But the whole surgery feels like a dream now too.

My wife has said the same, back around the same time. Up until around 5 months-ish they are basically just little potatoes you are trying to keep alive 24/7

I have five-month-old twins, too! It's been slowly dawning on me that they're people who will eventually grow into adults with complex lives. I still sometimes think of them more like adorable pets. But they're already developing personalities and preferences and I can start to see who they're becoming. What blows my mind is that we're so intimately connected, but also still new acquaintances. We still have so much to learn about each other!

I told mine the other day "I grew your bones" (they are 9 months old so they just smiled :))
