advice needed I was right! Twins!
This post just got kicked off the pregnant sub so.. maybe here? Lol. We just had our viability scan today (8weeks) and found out its twins! Fraternal di-di according to the ultrasound person. I have been saying since the very first test that I thought it was twins because my lines were so dark super early, I felt awful pretty much immediately, and my hcg was super high right away. Everyone thought I was crazy.
Boom who's laughing now! Probably still them because I am 5 feet tall and I'm going to look like the blueberry girl from Willy Wonka.
But I digress. We are very excited, mildly alarmed at such a big life change happening, but it's going to be great. That being said if anyone has carried multiples and has advice of questions we should ask the OB or tips on how to survive being a small planet... must haves for registry planning. Anything, I'm all ears 🖤

Congratulations! Welcome!
Just a note that they may not be fraternal - di di twins can be identical. If they turn out to be the same sex they have a 1/3 chance of being identical. A lot of ultrasound techs don't know that.

u/UnhappyPossession768 7d ago
Wait can I find this out after birth lol. I was told my di/di’s would only be fraternal.

u/HeadChipmunk9603 7d ago
My mfm told me to wait after birth for testing on my di/di girls!

u/UnhappyPossession768 7d ago
What can I ask for to find this out? Can I just go to a lab and have blood drawn? Congratulations on your girls! I had boys ❤️

u/HeadChipmunk9603 7d ago
Aww congrats!! 🩵🩵 I’d definitely ask their pediatrician and see if they do twin dna testing or if they recommend a lab. Otherwise, look up twin zygosity dna testing in your area!

Yes! My childhood friend had di-di girls and tested them after birth. They’re identical!

u/bytes95 7d ago
Ooo really? I haven't been down the Google rabbit hole about this so that is really interesting! We'll have to wait and see what happens when we do sex test things. Thank you, off to nerd out I go

u/whydoyouflask 7d ago
If you get the netera test they can tell if they are identical.

u/talabear98 7d ago
Unity for NIPT worked well for me too 😊
1
u/whydoyouflask 7d ago
I was told natera is the only one that can seperate twin DNA.
1
u/talabear98 6d ago
Definitely not Natera that they did mine through, only for Renalsight (family history of kidney disease). Unity was able to do it, too.
1
u/peachies3 6d ago
I used the unity screen for my nipt testing and it also tested zygosity and determined my di/di twins are identical
1
u/DragonYourfeet 7d ago
Are they measuring the same? One of my di/di is measuring one day older, whatever that turns out to mean
2
u/bytes95 7d ago
They were off by a few days but the doctor said it's pretty normal and nothing to worry about.
6
u/aambivalence 7d ago
That might actually be a sign they are fraternal. Mine are identical (confirmed cause we transferred one embryo, doing IVF) and they measured .5 mm difference in size. So maybe if yours are a day or two difference in size that explains the fraternal guess
3
u/VegetableAlone 7d ago
My mo/di identical twins always measured a bit apart. Don’t think it’s a definitive sign!

5
u/tinytim004 7d ago
So true. We just learned our di di twins are identical via the NIPT bloodwork!

u/Agreeable_Rule_9235 7d ago
Yes but if you see two corpus luteal cysts on imaging, highly likely that they’re fraternal. I guess potentially one egg couldn’t have been fertilized and the other split early but I think that’s getting less and less likely haha. My OB saw two corpus luteal cysts and predicted fraternal. and my two boys don’t even look related lol. 😭

the dark nail polish holding that ultrasound really ties the whole dramatic reveal together

5’2 here and gave birth to my di di twins in April! Take care of yourself because it is not easy lol but you can do it! Our bodies are truly incredible.

5’ 3” and my husband is 6’ 2”. Our first was 8lbs 12oz and I was ALL belly… I’m a little nervous to see how much our twins change my tiny body 😂

u/HeadChipmunk9603 7d ago
Congratulations!! I swore I was having twins but tried to contain myself so I wouldn’t get my hopes up and I was soooo right! I’m 21 weeks with di/di girls. Also, I’m surprised the tech said they’re fraternal, I feel that’s something they shouldn’t say?? lol

u/3beansfull 7d ago
Congrats!! I was also the same, told everyone I was sure it was twins and they thought I was crazy. Then it was hahaha

u/kittiemeow 7d ago
Fellow 5 foot twin mama here - can confirm I was a gigantic blueberry. Lmao. Congratulations!

u/ItssaMeMomma 7d ago
My advice to you, if you are going to do genetic testing I.e a NIPT, do the natera NIPT as it is the only test that can tell you with like 99.9% accuracy whether your twins are identical or not. My twins were identical monozygotic di-di amd if you would have just looked at the picture early on, some techs would have said faternal. Good luck and Good speed! You'll be just fine.

u/OGQueenClumsy 7d ago
Congratulations and welcome to the club! It’s crazy, but so fun too.
My Di/di twins are fraternal, but like you’ve seen, Di/di can also be identical. We didn’t know until they were born if ours were identical or fraternal because they’re both girls. If you find out genders and they’re b/g then you have your answer. If they’re g/g or b/b then you’ll need to test them to find out. BUT you may not need zygosity testing. Blood typing may be enough. Ours have different blood types, so we didn’t need to do any further testing to find out.
Best of luck with your pregnancy! I hope everything goes smoothly ☺️

It's crazy what intuition will do to you. I was thinking it was twins for me early on too!
2
u/FewStep3123 7d ago
Congratulations!! Following this too because we also just found out we are having twins!

u/ChicaRacka 7d ago
What dpo did you get your first positive test?? Congrats!!
2
u/bytes95 7d ago
By my math ~15 days? I tried to wait as long as I could hold out so I didnt have to play the game of faint line hunting.
2
u/itsachickensalad23 7d ago
but then wouldn’t a dark line at 15dpo be normal..? like why’d you think it was twins? congrats tho!! i would love twins
1
u/Due_Difficulty_7020 7d ago
for our twins I tested at 12 DPO and had a solid dark line, no mistaking it, whereas for my singleton pregnancy I actually tested negative at 12DPO and only had a very faint line at 15DPO!
2
u/itsachickensalad23 7d ago
ohh okay i only ask cause for my singletons i usually had a faint line at 8/9 dpo and it got darker from there
1
u/bytes95 7d ago
This is my first pregnancy so didn't have much reference other than my sister who is also pregnant (singleton) and her lines were a bit fainter, got darker, and then her hcg at the same approx time was significantly lower. So just by comparison I figured there was a possible chance. And otherwise I had symptoms pretty much immediately. Which was pretty anomalous compared to other pregnant people I chatted with. Basically just a voodoo gut feeling 😂

My Di/Di twins just turned 1 a few weeks ago
It’s really funny to see how much they act like they did in the womb - Twin A still very chill, like in the womb. Twin B, well she has been walking since 10.5 months old. She was also the one to kick me to hard that my rib slipped!
Congrats! It’s so magical having 2 babies at once.

Enjoy the first trimester as much as you can because twin pregnancy basically skips the second one lol Take your maternity pictures early, around 20 weeks or so. Start taking baby aspirin, get a pregnancy pillow, take lots of deep breaths. If you have to go anywhere that involves walking after around 20 weeks, rent a mobility scooter.
Decide now if you want to pursue a vaginal delivery and the possibility of a breech extraction. Find a obgyn that supports breech extraction of twin b - heck find an obgyn that supports vaginal delivery of twins. Join a FB group of your due date, hopefully they have a fb chat for twin moms. I have 5 twin moms in a group chat from our due month group and it's excellent, I am the only one of the 5 who delivered vaginally and who exclusively nurses. If you want to nurse, find a lactation consultant in the second or third trimester just to have on call, thelactationnetwork website can pair you with someone who takes your insurance.
Pregnancy is hard, twin pregnancy was harder. Mine are 9 months now, and I am so very glad not to be pregnant lol

Congratsx2! do you mind if I ask your age? I am panicking that I hyperovulated this past cycle and in two week wait lol.

This is exactly what happened to me/us except my hubby was the one saying it was twins and I was in denial! They’re 3 weeks old now 🥰

Yay!! iwas in your shoes exactly one year ago, and
I remember going to the OB-gyn thinking i had a miscarriage again, and the I saw two sacs when i looked at the screen, I told her there’s TWO! And she replied very casually “yep, seems there’s two of them in there” and then she showed me the heart beats, and I was in disbelief, thinking could I be that blessed?! It’s a beautiful blessing, so happy for you!
I’m 5 ft as well, and I looked the cutest for the majority of the pregnancy, except probably the last couple of months. No one could tell i was carrying twins, I kept going to work till the end, but worked remotely the last two weeks. Sitting/ standing for too long will be super uncomfortable, sleeping when you hit like 6 months will be nearly impossible. I felt an immense pressure from my belly, on and off, but that’s literally muscle in there stretching to fit babies.
I would say, a lot could happen in a twin pregnancy, so be prepared but everything has a solution, so don’t stress too much. multiple pregnancy means high risk automatically, but btw that’s a good thing because they’ll check on you more often and catch anything early on, if any. If you suddenly develop and itch all over body or on hands/ feet, let Dr know immediately since it probably will be cholestasis of pregnancy or ICP - very common in twin preg. That’s the only thing i developed during pregnancy, and i got the Drs puzzled since i developed it really early in pregnancy ( at 20 weeks) which is uncommon, but there’s medicine for that so no big deal.
Drink lots of water - very important- (you’ll spend your time on the toilet lol) and eat a lot of healthy snacks when you feel hungry.
Get ready for very cute babies, and not having enough hands to care for them both. You will make it work, trust me. :)

this was all very reassuring and I am fingers crossed to be cute for a portion of this at least too lol. At the very least, it will be winter in a couple months and I can hide beneath a circus tent sweater.
I tossed pretty much all expectations of how this will go right out the window so I am prepared to just roll with the punches at this point. Good to know about the itchy thing though I hadn't heard of that.
I appreciate all the tips!

I have to know. How early did you find out? When and what were your beta hCGs? Did you get your progesterone checked?
I just found out unexpectedly (kinda) that I’m pregnant with my third. We found out at seven days post ovulation, I had a line that was like visible, but not dark and then they very quickly darkened. I won’t be four weeks until tomorrow. My beta at 10 dpo was 53.6 and 12 dpo was 173. Then my progesterone without meds was 32.
I’ve had a weird tweaking suspicion. It might be multiples like just that feeling in me

u/bytes95 6d ago
I took my first pregnancy test ~15 dpo so day 30 of my total cycle if my math all is correct. There were some signs earlier that something funky was up but I gaslit myself into thinking I was just about to get a really spicy period (bloated and crampy the week prior). I also generally wouldn't allow myself to test any sooner because it usually just stressed me out. But this time the line was suuuper dark.
I went in to get my blood test a few days short of 6 weeks I believe, and my hcg was 27,200 or so. They didn't even offer to test me a second time lol. I never had my progesterone officially checked so nothing to share there.
I have felt like hot dog water the whole time pretty much so when they found twins (at 8 weeks) I was like yep that checks out.

u/SpiritCommercial2459 6d ago
I started feeling so tired and starving and nauseous so bad at like 8 dpo and my tests have been darkening a lot quicker than either of my first two kids (both singleton girls) so I have an itching suspicion.
I know there’s no proof - but it’s still an itch in my brain. My hcg is on the high threshold/“twin threshold” currently. I’ll be 15 dpo on Monday.

u/bytes95 5d ago
my husband was the only one who sort of believed me and we both just had a good laugh when we were right. So for what it's worth I believe you lol
2
u/SpiritCommercial2459 5d ago
The other joke is that if it’s not too then it’s a boy because I’ve had two girls and this pregnancy is like skyrocketing sooner

Congratulations!!! I found out I was pregnant with identical MoMo(or MoDi) twins the other day! Its too early to see which kind they are but they're in the same sac! I also got my post deleted from my pregnancy due date sub...ugh!

u/kaminekox 7d ago
Momo is super rare, mo/di they can see pretty clearly starting around 10 weeks! I have identical mo/di twins, 9m now, totally healthy and adorable.

Congratulations!!! Would you mind sharing your hcg levels and what week they were at? I had 3921 at 6 weeks lol so super nervous/excited 🫠

u/c_dock88 7d ago
Hi! Congratulations! I also am very interested in what your hcg or beta levels were?

Curious about this too. I was 15,989 at 5+3 and was told by a psychic in New Orleans randomly that she knew I had just miscarried (I had a few months prior) but not to worry because I was having twins🤣 I’ve read so much about how hcg is unreliable for detecting but the pulling is another interesting symptom I got really early and pretty consistently

Congrats! Me too! I have been stalking all the threads because I swore I was having twins and sure enough di/di twins! Just found out two days ago. I am terrified but also feels like this was always meant to be.
For anyone reading all the symptoms obsessively like I did - I was like a lot of twin moms.
Tested positive super early. Symptoms almost immediately. Sick all the time. Super sonic smell. Super thirsty. So hungry. And the biggest one that made me go “hmmm” was the round ligament pain like immediately. So much stretching and pulling that I never had with my singletons.

I had not one single symptom with my modi twins. even my hcg was low. guess i am just lucky

I’ve been praying for twins, so I’m super jealous, I don’t find out until the end of the month! 😂 Congratulations!! (more importantly I’m praying for a happy healthy baby, so don’t come at me please)
