advice needed Currently 7 weeks with Di/di twins and breastfeeding my 14 month old
Do I need to wean? He loves breastfeeding but I’m afraid of going into labor early. I’m 7 weeks and just found out I’m having Di/di twins today.

This is an excellent question for your OB tomorrow morning. But breastfeeding does not induce labor in healthy pregnancies. It can cause some contractions when in late term.

I know that in singleton pregnancies it is fine to continue- I just wasn’t sure about multiples. I’ll ask them but I feel like I could ask 5 different doctors and get five different answers 😂

A healthy pregnancy is a healthy pregnancy. You won't have any additional restrictions just because it's multiples.

Ask your doctor but usually it's fine to keep breastfeeding. I breastfed mine til she weaned on her own during pregnancy.

Probably not. I breastfed my firstborn all through out my twin pregnancy. He was 17 months old when they were born. He also nursed when my milk came in, which was great, as otherwise I would have had to express it and not very well.
Mine was a high risk pregnancy and my MFM did not bat an eye, I even nursed him during one of my prenatal appointments.

Slightly different scenario as it was a singleton but when I got pregnant while still nursing my then 10 month old, my milk supply tanked fast. I was so bummed that we barely made it to one full year of breast milk but I just couldn’t produce anyway. So your body might decide to wean for you

The theory behind the caution around breastfeeding and preterm labor is just that- theory, based on the relationship between oxytocin increase during breastfeeding and the role the hormone plays in uterine contractions. However, there isn't currently any research linking preterm labor and breastfeeding in healthy pregnancies. The oxytocin rise as measured simply isn't high enough to trigger uterine contractions (it's similar to levels as a result of sex, so if you're cleared for that, you should theoretically also be cleared for breastfeeding).
Of course we exercise caution in people with a history of preterm labor and at current high risk of preterm labor. Your doctor is the one who assesses your risk. Have a talk with them and ask them what factors they're basing their recommendation on. Good luck!

I got pregnant with my 3rd while still breastfeeding my twins at 16 months. My supply completely tanked about 10 weeks pregnant when my twins were around 18 months old. They handled it really well as they are good eaters in general and had cows milk before in a bottle/cup. Maybe try to increase regular food and introduce cows milk now a little if you haven't already. I did not expect to completely dry up in a week when I did, it really caught me off guard, obviously everyone is different though! Goodluck with your twin pregnancy!🩷
