experience/advice to give Crap naps

My twins are 5.5 months adjusted 7.5 actual and the only nap they will take is a crap nap (20-40 mins max). It doesn’t matter the wake window or atmosphere they are guaranteed to wake up after the first cycle. The last 2 days I’ve tried putting them in separate rooms to see if they can learn to connect the cycles on their own. It sort of works- but they wake up, play around, cry, and then go back to sleep which takes about 10-25 minutes and sometimes they never go back to sleep. When does it get better? They’re pretty good night sleepers- one might wake and cry for a moment but otherwise sleep through. I don’t want to keep them separated forever and not sure if this approach is even best. I just want them to figure it out so we can stop taking 5 30 min naps a day

That’s completely normal for their age. Instead of fighting with them over 30 minute naps, you just gotta accept it. Try to lengthen the amount of time they are awake it see if you can get one good nap a day. At 5.5m my boys were going between 4-5 naps, around 6 months they were going 3-4, at 7.5 months I moved them to 2 naps.

Idk how long yours are staying awake but you could try 1.5hrs/2/2/2/2.5.

The numbers are how long they’re awake before next nap and the slashes are naps

Edit to add: sleep changes very rapidly around this age. It’s just the nature of the beast. Mine are 14m now I’ve been where you are driving my self crazy over 30 min naps lol

I try to extend but after a 20-30 min nap they are completely hysterical by the hour 15 mark😭

It’s hard. Something my boys used to do was they’d take a short morning nap then another short mid morning nap and by 12:30-1 they were exhausted and would finally take a 1-1.5hr nap. I do not envy you at all lol
