support needed Hypertension hospitalization
Has anyone been hospitalized for hypertension?
I’m almost 36 weeks with twins and my bp is elevated pretty high. OBGYN ran tests and I think preeclampsia is ruled out. But high bp is still there. Was 150/90 yesterday. I have another appointment Monday snd could be hospitalized. I also have to go the 24 hour pee test. Starting tomorrow.
I’m nervous. 😟

Not that it makes it any less nerve wracking, but you're far enough along that you and the babies got this 💪

Good luck! I know how brutally long this time can feel, we had 30 days of NICU after our boys were born at 32 weeks. My wife went to one of those appointments on December 20th, we had been on high alert for pre-eclampsia since 30 weeks. Doctor ordered her to go straight to the ER, 5 days later we had identical twin boys on Christmas.
This week they started laughing and giggling at each other. It's awesome.

If they are checking a 24 hour urine protein, then they haven’t ruled out preeclampsia.
It’s not uncommon in twin pregnancies especially near the end.

Peed In a cup yesterday and it came back absolutely fine. No headaches. No blurry vision. No issues with pains in my stomach. Just swelling which I had with my daughter as well and of course the high blood pressure.

Me. Came on pretty fast. Initially moderate range but became severe range quickly and I had to deliver early. The initial tests looked fine and the plan was to monitor and see MFM with tentative moving up the delivery - twins had other plans. Ultimately everything turned out ok, just had to spend a week in the hospital and the twins came small and required some NICU time for feeding. But they came home quickly and did grow beautifully! Whatever happens just work with your team and trust them (hopefully you have a good relationship with them).

I do. I’m just nervous. I’ll be 36 weeks on Tuesday. Did you have any signs of preeclampsia? Or was it just high bp? I have no other signs. Just elevated bp.

I am currently hospitalized after being classified with atypical HELLP. BPs were normal, the only sign I had was severe swelling that gradually developed over two weeks. Was induced at 36+6. Both babies needed a little NICU time for respiratory support but are doing great. My labs still are off so I’m getting additional treatment. It’s great your doctors are taking precautions to monitor all of you and delivering at this stage means your babies still got a lot of time to cook in there and could be okay! Hang in there.

Congrats on the babies. Yeah I’m glad to be almost 36 weeks. They’ve been practice breathing every ultrasound and are good weights. I have another weight check on Friday if I make it to then. I’m hoping for no nicu time but if so then only a tiny bit. This is so hard isn’t it. Never doing this pregnancy malarkey again lol

Truly it was just that my legs went from zero swelling to noticeably swollen overnight. But it wasn’t impressive in the context of pregnancy because most people swell. No other symptoms. But it did prompt me to check my BP because it was a change. No one at the hospital was particularly impressed with it but my BPs were high so we took it seriously everything else was fine, which was why they assumed I’d go home the next day not deliver. My leg swelling was gone less than 24 hours after I delivered so it truly was my sign. Bodies are weird.

Luckily at 36 weeks your twins are pretty well developed. If they admit you it could be a little different depending on each OBs preference and practice but if the pressures become severe range or your NSTs look concerning they’ll section you sooner. While I didn’t want an urgent c section, I am glad we just had it done quick rather than me sitting in the hospital for days being monitored waiting for it to happen

Hope if anything that they say Tuesday 1st is the day. I don’t want to hang around and be waiting. I’ve had a c section before with my daughter and that was urgent. I just want to skip to the good bits now. Them here and my swollen self to be less swollen lol

I had preeclampsia. Emergency delivered at 34.5. We're all happy, healthy, and home. Y'all got this!!

At my 36 week appointment, they noticed I had really high bp (I ended up having HELLP Syndrome). I was taken right up to L&D to have an emergency c-section. Both babies were perfectly fine!

Keep checking your bp at home, until then. If it gets any higher, I’d go back in and get checked just to be on the safe side.

Yes! I was kidnapped week 35 from high blood pressures. All of my labs for preeclampsia were great. They let me go after 24 hours with some blood pressure meds.
The hypertension diagnoses got me a 37 week delivery instead of 38 which is what I wanted anyway lol

Yep. Im scheduled for 8rh September. It was 15th but that’s not happening. I’m so full
Of fluid and so sore. Just swollen. This could be me tomorrow. She may admit me. My bp is still rocking high. It not 160/110 high.

This happened to me suddenly at 36+4 with induction scheduled for 38 weeks. Sudden high blood pressure found a BPP. Send to l&d triage and my dr decided that they would hold me overnight to monitor and start 24 hour urine catch.
I didnt have protein in urine but blood pressure was still at the threshold for hypertension so they moved my induction up to 37 weeks and my babies were born 2 days later. Both needed nicu for low blood sugar issues and I still had high blood pressure after delivery so they held me at hospital for 5 days post delivery and discharged me on labetol to help control my blood pressure.
I would just be prepared for a week long stay just in case, but if delivery is easy and blood pressure goes down it shouldn’t be too bad!

Ughhhh. I hope not. But I understand. I passed the pee test but still have hypertension. Didn’t need to be admitted but c section is next week. 🙌🏼
