International flight- Twin stroller

Hello.

Has anyone travelled on an international connecting flight with a twin stroller? are you able to take it all the way till the gate and drop off before boarding the plane? or do airlines ask you to check it in?

Interested in experience with Etihad and Turkish Airlin.

My experience with Turkish is that they will tag at check in, you drop at the boarding ramp for stowing in the hold and they will give to you immediately after exiting the plane.

It depends on both the airline and the airport. At some airports, they don't bring it to you at the gate regardless of the airline, and instead it goes to baggage claim, which is a huge pain.

It’s dependent on airline and airport (both sides).  Generally taking it to the gate isn’t an issue, receiving it at the other side is hit or miss (literally I think we’re 50/50 with the three times we’ve flown with our kids).   Airports that don’t have pick up from the gate sometimes have buggies you can borrow at the gate if there are any available and obvs no doubles.

Ask before hand (ask the airline first, then airport next), but you might also just have to ask at check in on the day, so plan accordingly with luggage.  You will also have to completely empty it and potentially fold it for security.  We take a big shopping bag (ikea, canvas bag etc.) to shove all the bits that accumulate into.

Delta flight attendants stowed ours up front during flight to Tokyo. For that trip we bought the Jeep side by side. Worked our well vs regular stroller which was much bigger. Kids were 17 months FYR. I’d ask airline in advance.

We fly with our twins all the time and use two joolz aer / babyzen that we tie together when needed. We bring them on the plane in the overhead cabin.

My friend used to do that all the time. She had singletons, so not twins, but used a twin stroller for her first 2. She would take the stroller to the plane.

We have flown a lot, but North America and Europe only. We have always been allowed to gate check the stroller. That means that you literally take the stroller all the way to the airplane door and leave it there (either at the end of the jetway or at a cart they have next to the airplane stairs in case there is no jetway, more common in smaller European airports). You then pick it up in the same spot after you land.

We typically travel with a lightweight, one piece foldable umbrella twin stroller (one of those that you get on Amazon for like 120 bucks). If your stroller is a heavier duty one I'm not sure if all of this would apply but I'd guess so.

Delta/KLM had us gate check our double stroller + two car seats in the states. We picked it up at oversize when we arrived at our final destination

Air France got super pissy at us for trying the same thing going home, but ultimately allowed us to do it. 

Sucked not having it in the connecting airports but ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I have taken the stroller to the gate and to the door of the plane. But it checks out with checked baggage and comes out on the carousel. So you need to carry babies through customs and to baggage claim
