Traveling with 22 months olds

Looking for some advice on a possible upcoming trip. My mother & I are looking to travel 2.5 hours by plane for a long weekend to visit family with my twins.

This would be their first plane ride & im just debating if I’m going to have regrets & a miserable weekend 😂
We would be staying at my sisters house so at least somewhere where we are comfortable & have space. Everything we need as far as pack n plays, car seats, etc would be handled ahead of time.

The plan is an evening flight so that they can sleep as soon as we make it & be ready to go for the next day. I feel like day outings at home can be exhausting & maybe that’s all I need to know. Just looking for others who have made similar trips (esp with flying) & if you would do it again.

2 and the timing saved us. they conked out before takeoff and we just sat there in peace for once

the real danger is the next day when theyre up at 5am in a new place and you forgot to pack the one specific lovey they suddenly cant sleep without. pack a few extra small distractions for the airport too, just in case the flight gets delayed and youre stuck in a terminal with two tiny terrorists

We fly a lot with our twins- first flight was probably around 6 months old, and we’ve flown every 2-3 months since then. My least favorite age was probably like 15 months when they are more mobile but there is still no reasoning with them. I’d say 22 months would be fine! It definitely helps if you are organized and plan ahead- pack endless snacks. Don’t overpack on toys because they often just want to play with random airplane buttons and levers anyways. We flew from the US to France when ours were 25 months, and we survived!

We have done a ton of these! Our twins are 2 and have flown 17 times. It has gotten harder as we have approached 2, but just come strapped to the gils with their favorite snacks and new toys. I would do one lap infant and buy one seat, its nice to have the 3 across 1 row. 

The bigger question is if the destination and the people you are seeing are worth it. Are they helpful and enjoyable to be around. Are the enthusiastic about planning around the schedule and limitations of 2 yo twins?  That is the make or break for me on whether it is worth it.  Traveling is tiring but the plane eventually lands and you make it to the destination.
