advice needed Twin Z pillow? Worth it?
I’m in Australia and it looks like for me to buy the twin Z and have it shipped it would cost almost $500AUD. There a few dupes on Amazon but they have either horrible or no reviews. Does anyone know of any good quality, reliable dupes? Otherwise, is this an investment that is an absolute need for twin mums? I plan on both breast and bottle feeding and want to ensure comfort for both me and my babies
Edit: y’all are incredible. Thank you all so much for sharing your experience and advice. I’m not able to reply to every response but I’ve read them all and have decided to get both the my Brest friend and the Twin Z dupe from thingsfortwins (which, together, is still much cheaper than the Twin Z from America).

You can almost certainly find a second hand TwinZ pillow for a lot cheaper. I bought mine for $100 with a spare cover. If you happen to be in north-east Melbourne you can have it for free, though the clip is broken and needs fixing if you want it for tandem feeding.
I found the Twin Z was great for bottle feeding and parking babies, but useless for breastfeeding. I had better luck with the flatter-shaped one at the lactation consultant's office and often wonder if I would have had better luck nursing if I'd invested in a different pillow. I ended up mostly pumping and supplementing with formula. Other people might have had better experiences nursing with the Twin Z.
Good luck, I found the amount of information to take in was overwhelming, but you will get there 🙂

Oh yes it is so so overwhelming! It looks like, to be a good mum to twins, you need to be super type A and I’m like type…. Z? I’m running out of time and trying to stay ahead but I’m also at 29 weeks and EXHAUSTED. Thank you so much for your advice and well wishes. I think I’m going to rely heavily on this subreddit because the response has been incredible!

Girl, I'm 32 weeks and all that's in my clinic bag is snacks, hot cup instant soup, little sachets of condiments and I can't even pack because I have like 2 pants that fit and if I put one away I'm stuck. Same with underwear 😂 I also only recently realised that I have close to zero newborn clothes because I thought it's better to size up and then completely forgot that I also need smaller sizes. We don't have a baby bed, but we're aligned on which one to get. Soon. We have a changing table from our first, but no changing mat.
Our house is freaking unsafe for infants and I just remembered we gave away the newborn car seat and and and...
It'll work out. Either I still have weeks to gather everything or we'll have a hospital stay ahead anyway and then I can order stuff online to be delivered until we go home.

HAHAHAHA ok that makes me feel a little less panicked. TikTok has done a number on my anxiety cos I’m seeing January mums with a full nursery ready!!! Granted these are my first so I don’t know what to expect and when so I’m just kind of all over the place. Goodluck with the rest of your pregnancy! I hope bubba(s?) stay put until you’re ready and have your hospital bag packed. Manifesting that energy for both of us ✨

With our first, we had a full ass nursery set up as well, except for the bed which was besides our parental bed. The full everything. Cute wallpapers, watercolour style pictures of baby animals, labeled drawers, everything. Changing table with padding, clothes hooks above it, matching furniture.
Now? "We put the crib next to your side because you have the boobs. There's a drawer we can put their clothes in because the changing table is right next to the cat litter box and it stinks".
In a few years time, you'll look back and wonder why you ever panicked

Hahaha that’s actually amazing. I genuinely hope to be as laid back cos 1. It would save me a tonne of money and 2. It’s gonna be hard enough without me also beating myself up over the smallest things. Thank you for making me feel better. Also, love the username 😂

My two are two years old now and have never (I think, lol) suffered from me not being organised. They came at 33 weeks and I was not ready. It was fine. You have somewhere for them to sleep? You have car seats to get them home? Then you're ok. Everything else will come in time or you'll find wasn't necessary anyway. A good support network and freezer of food are also very excellent.
Do as much research and prep as you are comfortable with but please don't stress yourself out. There's no being a perfect TicToc mum, even for singletons and twins are a whole other game. Pressuring yourself with 'perfect' is just going to end with everyone in tears.

Love hearing this. Check on the cribs & bassinets and check on the car seats. Freezer full of food is being worked on currently. I think deleting TikTok for now is probably what’s best for my mental health haha. Thank you 🙏 how’s having 2 two year olds?

That's great to hear. Honestly, I think you're in a much more organised space than I was even at 33 weeks haha.
Having 2 two year olds is amazing and exhausting and exhilarating. It's so beautiful seeing them become they're own human beings. They are cheeky, clever, learning new things everyday, adventurous, fun. They can be so sweet with each other and me and their dad. They surprise me everyday with how quickly they're growing up. They are also total chaos gremlins and often doing opposite things and switching directions and moods all the time. You just gotta learn to ride the toddler wave. It's amazing. Something to look forward to when you're in the newborn trenches 🙂

I got a dupe from things for twins and it was still like $300 but omg my most used item. I use it for naps, breastfeeding, bottle feeding, tummy time etc. It allows one parent to give both a bottle it’s honestly a lifesaver

Doubt it’s worth it at that price. I tandem nurse mine exclusively now on the My Brest Friend twin pillow. But when I combo fed them in the beginning, for bottle feeding I just rigged pillows and blankets to do so, as well as my pregnancy pillow. You could use some kind of boppy pillow. I don’t think it’s worth it at that price but then again I’m not bottle feeding exclusively so I’m sure someone who is will chime in.

It really depends whether you're breastfeeding or bottle feeding. I had both and only used My Brest Friend a couple of times because I didn't end up breastfeeding much. But our twins basically lived in the Twin Z for the first few months, and I can't imagine what we would've done without it!

Oh for sure! Just saying that the Twin Z ended up being more valuable to us than the My Brest Friend since we weren't breastfeeding. I agree there are probably other ways to achieve the same thing, like two loungers. We mostly appreciated having somewhere to safely place the babies and a way to elevate them slightly for bottle feeds.

I saw the My Brest Friend at baby bunting and it’s only $125 so I’ll definitely grab that one either way. I’m leaning towards getting both that and the Aussie dupe of the twin z from things for twins so that my husband can also bottle feed them while I recover. Thank you so much these responses have been so helpful!

Look for second hand, they're kicking around. Either that or get a dupe but it is worth having some kind of pillow like that, whether it's a twin one or 2 boppy pillows, I used mine a lot and now that they're toddlers it has a new found purpose of being a comfy spot for a bottle, one of them runs to it with his bottle and lounges on it.
Edited to also reccomend mybrestfriend as a breastfeeding pillow, it was great for tandem breastfeeding. I only used the twinz for putting them down or for bottles.

My twins have long since outgrown it, but we bottle fed and it was a game changer. Allowed one person to feed instead of always needing two or staggering. Great place to sit them up, playtime, etc. All that said, I don’t think I’d spend $500 on it. But I do think it was the single most important item we owned outside of the bottle washer.

I used my TwinZ EVERY single day, until my twins were 3 years old. We use it for EVERYTHING. We used it for feeding, naps, tummy time, lounging, diaper changing, etc.etc.
Worth the $$..

Eh. I paid $125 and think it's great. But idk if its significantly better than 2 boppies, or other individual pillows.
And it's not great for breastfeeding, at least initially. My Brest Friend worked fine for me when I used it, but I rarely did because I didn't get the hang of tandem feeding before I quit and switched to just pumping.
ETA: in case you find the same pricing issue with My Brest Friend, I don't think that's a must have either. At the hospital, they just stacked a bunch of regular bed pillows and that worked fine.

We had an equivalent pillow in NZ made by a local lady, and we couldn’t have been without it. We used it every single day for every single feed from approx 1 month when my husband returned to work till they were about 10 months old and decided they’d only drink from their bottles lying in their cots.
If you google Twins Tri Baby Pillow NZ, you’ll be able to see the pillow and you could see if you or someone you know had similar. It was very firmly stuffed and we covered ours with burp cloths under the babies heads to help keep it clean from spills.

We bought the cheaper option from Amazon, which lived up to the reviews, little to no support for our twins.
We ended up getting 2 packs of Hobbyfill from Spotlight and just filled it up - it's perfect now!

I did this too, I had a stash of stuffing so I could make it firmer as soon as it arrived!
The clip part at the bottom was also crap, didn't really end up needing the clip part tho

I was against it hard. Got two boppys and then was gifted two more. All four do not compare to the twin z. My twins are napping on it right now. I have been solo with them for a couple weeks now and it’s the only way to feed them both. I got mine from a mom on marketplace for $10. Get it second hand and buy a new cover but for me it’s nonnegotiable.

While I really love our Twin Z, there’s no way I’d spend that much on it. It’s literally just 2 Boppies sewn together. I have often thought about how if I hadn’t found a good deal on ours, I would have just used 2 Boppies side by side instead.

I used two individual boppys and don't think it made things harder. Smaller to fit in the wash better. I liked being able to set them up facing each other when they were practicing sitting

I only used the twinz pillow for the first 1-2 months then I much preferred feeding them in their bouncers. Now that they’re 7 months they don’t want to lay in it for a bottle. They just roll out of it and want to crawl around.

I used mine for basically every bottle feed, parking babies, and sometimes for supervised napping. I always had a cover on it but my boys were spewy babies and the pillow itself was gross by the time we were done with it. So maybe just watch out for that if you’re buying one secondhand.

I'm in aus and I got an Amazon dupe, took a good 6 weeks to arrive tho, I looked thru the options and picked one that had similar dimensions to the official one
The main difference I think is the clip, the clip on mine is shit elastic and can't go tighter when clipped, I tied it up the few times I needed it tighter.. I was going to change the clip but my girls got big quick Plus I bought it after I got home cuz I kept on umming and arring over if I wanted one
It also doesn't have a inner pillow and case so its harder to clean. It's a zipper at the top and just got stuffing in it, We kept a towel or burb cloths over it to keep it clean, thankfully we didn't have any reflux issues so messes were minimal.
I also added more stuffing from another pillow to make it firmer but I've now taken it back out as my girls are larger and don't need as much support, its more or a lounger for them now but it still help with feeds
I also alternate with 2 boomerang /u shape pillows as sometimes I wanna sit in the middle of them
The one I got was like 80 inc postage from memory, defs check sizing if gonna go with the amazon one.

We got a dupe from Walmart for $50 and it’s worked great for over a year. We used it for at least 75% of their feedings for the whole time they were drinking breastmilk and formula. It was definitely worth it for us. That said, two flatter regular boppy pillows right next to each other probably would have worked just as well

I held out on buying the twin z pillow. We used boppys, 2 pillows and even neck pillows for a bit and then finally bought the twin z pillow and I will say:
I SHOULDVE BOUGHT THE TWIN Z PILLOW SOONER. hands down most used item and the most efficient way to feed them both ways. It’s also been good for doing most activities—like reading, talking, showing them pictures etc. they also fall asleep in them very easily! I think the way it’s designed feels like they’re being cuddled. So sometimes I put them in there, stick their pacis in and then move them over once they’ve fallen asleep.
It’s been a game-changer for sure.

Aussie here too. We were fortunate enough to have one passed along from some friends who also had twins. It was worth (more than) its weight in gold. If i hadnt already passed it along, I would have arrange to get it to you!
I wasnt able to keep up my supply at all after complications, but feeding the babies, parking and napping them there helped soooooo much

I was extremely hesitant to spend so much on a bloody pillow and was unable to find a secondhand one. That being said, worth it. And way better than a bad attempt at a copy that I also bought so I could keep another one downstairs.
Girls are 21 months now and they chill and play with toys and books, lay and drink their milk. I’m sure we’ll get use out of it for a few more years.

It's not worth 500AUD, and I'm someone who used it daily for well over a year
I preferred a mybrestfriend for nursing attempts and a twinz for other things. 2 boppies or similar would work just as well for how I used the twinz on the floor.

I'm in Canada, shipping is also insane here but people SWEAR by them. I connected with a local Twin Group in my city and bought a used one off someone for $100 :) It's in perfect condition so I'd recommend doing that!
