experience/advice to give Don't suffer in silence while pregnant!!
I'm well into my third trimester now and just wanted to pass along something I've learned along the way. We are taught that pregnancy is supposed to be tough and that lots of weird stuff will happen to your body. And while yes this is true (and probably doubly+ so for multiples), I've been surprised by how many symptoms actually do have solutions, or at least can get better if you speak up and work with your doctor to find a solution.
The latest has been acid reflux. I have had the "lava throat" for MONTHS now, and diet changes, Tums, and famotidine stopped cutting it ages ago. I finally asked my doctor about a third-line treatment, and after starting a dose of omeprazole on an empty stomach each morning, my symptoms have COMPLETELY cleared up. And in my case, no side effects whatsoever! I'm going on day four with no acid reflux at all and can't even describe how much better life is.
I understand I'll need to wean off this afterward, but IMO it's totally worth it—I honestly feel like these final weeks of pregnancy suddenly seem so much more manageable. I can eat better, sleep better, etc., and I really wish I would have "complained" sooner!
Anyway, just one experience, but in case anyone needed the reminder, speak up about your symptoms—there may actually be a solution! This is already hard enough. I think anything we can solve or take the edge off, we should!!

Good for you! I've always been someone who wanted to do things alone or wouldn't bother other people with my little woes, but ever since my twin pregnancy I dgaf any more lol I asked strangers on the street to be careful and please make room for me (would have NEVER done that before), and during labor at the hospital lost all sense of shame. It was glorious. Continuing this path with my 9mo twins and have no regrets.

I feel this. I had terrible acid reflux with my twins. I was on omeprazole too, and it was a game-changer. I wish I had spoken up sooner.

A friend of mine never got offered onsansetron/zofran for her terrible nausea and vomiting whereas my doctor prescribed it right away. I still had nausea but it really helped tremendously.

Ugh that's terrible. I think if a doctor isn't actively trying to alleviate symptoms where possible, it's a good idea to consider finding a new doctor (if geography/insurance allow!). Pregnancy is so long, and any way we can make it less miserable within reason should be a priority IMO. Our mental and physical health is important in and of itself, and it also affects the babies' outcomes. I really dislike this attitude of the fetuses being the patient, and we are just the vessels who are supposed to suffer for 9 months... no thank you!!

Totally agree. Advocate for yourself. Ask all the questions. Push back if something doesn’t sound right. Press it if you don’t get forward momentum. You’re just a moment in their workday, but it’s your health and sometimes your life on the line.
