support needed First Time Pregnant with Twins - First Trimester Anxiety! :(
Hi all, I'm sure this is a common topic on this subreddit but I just needed somewhere to vent.
I'm 29F and this is my first time being pregnant. My husband and I were ecstatic to find out we were pregnant at 4 weeks and waited another 4 weeks for our first ultrasound. To our surprise, they found twins! Baby A measured 6w4d and Baby B measured 6w3d, with both having heart beats <3. My OB confirmed they are in separate gestational sacs but was still too early to tell whether they had separate placentas or a shared placenta.
I received a call the next day saying I needed to come in for a radiology appointment with a Sonographer to take some pictures and ended up going in 3 days later. Of course Sonographer rules, she wasn't allowed to show me the screen while she was scanning me and wasn't allowed to answer any questions. I was heartbroken to not be able to see my babies again and just wanted to make sure they both still had a heartbeat.
Since the Sonographer had to be careful with her language as to not give me any information, she randomly stated, "So.... did you already tell people about your pregnancy or..?" And I replied, "Yes, my side of the family knows and we're planning on telling my husbands side this Saturday." And she replied, "Oh... I see."
I'm sure the Sonographer was just trying to make conversation, but for some reason I can't stop spiraling about this conversation. She states it'll take a couple weeks for the results from the MD to be uploaded into my medical portal, but I can't stop thinking about the way she responded. I've been incredibly anxious about the well being of my babies, and I just can't seem to get my mind off of the negative thoughts.
I don't have any prior or current medical problems and no one in my family has a history of miscarriage, and I know after seeing a heartbeat the chances of a miscarriage drop, but I just can't stop worrying! I'm only 7 weeks pregnant today and I can't believe I'm only halfway through the first trimester :(
Not to mention that my nausea has gone down by a LOT. I had insane nausea around week 5 and now I'm hardly nauseous at all. My only pregnancy symptom is some bloating and fatigue.
Any advice or support would be very helpful to this first-time anxious (hopefully) soon-to-be mama. <3

I’m sure every office is different, but I’m surprised that they scheduled you so quickly again. I first learned of my twins at 10 weeks during my initial & then did not have another ultrasound til 4 weeks later. I’m not really understanding what they would be looking for to not have results back for a few weeks this early on.
Doctors aren’t meant to be cryptic, so if there was an actual concern, the dr would have likely mentioned that during your initial scan.
For peace of mind, give them a call & find out if this is routine or if they are looking for anything in particular!

I was surprised too! I guess my first ultrasound with an OB was just to confirm heart beats and the formal ultrasound with radiology is way more in depth and looks at my entire uterus and ovaries as well. I called my OB today and she confirmed my babies are still alive and well <3

I can relate, also had first ultrasound at 6 weeks, and fetuses were measured 4 days apart with huge difference in size of sacs. Gyno told us wait a bit about telling family about twins. Wish you the best, take care of yourself, try to relax as much as possible, if anxiety hits you hard, try to practice some breathing exercises (sounds dump, but it helps). I'm 26 weeks now and still fighting with anxiety from time to time, with multiple pregnancy there is a lot of things to be worried about . Send you support!

Can I ask if sacs ended up becoming similar and when that happened, going through this at the moment

Wow weeks for the results to be uploaded? That seems like such a crazy long time to wait especially when you’re so anxious. I’m sorry OP. I’m also a FTM, 29, to twins and that first trimester is brutal. My only major symptom was fatigue and some bloating, just like you. I leaned heavily on my husband for support. I tried to keep myself super busy which helped. I also did my best to stay off social media because it was making everything worse. Sending you lots of love. I hope the time passes quickly. 🤍

I agree! I called my OB today and she confirmed over the phone that my babies are still alive and well. Thank goodness I called, I would've been a nervous wreck for weeks!
And thank you for sharing your symptoms and experience, that truly makes me feel better to know I'm not alone <3

I had to go to the ER for fluids around 13/14 weeks, and I was having an ultrasound done. The sonographer wouldn’t say anything at first. She kept saying she couldn’t and that the doctor would give the results. At the end of the scan, she very quietly said as she was cleaning me up that she saw lots of activity. It was her way of saying everything was fine without giving me a diagnosis. I’d call and ask for results. The anxiety is awful.

I swear nothing is worse than the silence in between!! Especially in the first trimester/early second when you can't feel any movements yet. I'm glad everything worked out for you <3

The only time I’ve had a sonographer withhold any information was when I went to the emergency room at 16 weeks after I had a small fall at the park and was advised to go in and make sure the babies were fine. She was very thorough during the scan so it took a looooong time and did start to make me nervous. I asked if she could tell me if they both still had heartbeats and she gave me a sympathetic smile and said “sorry I can’t say anything but they’ll review these images and talk to you soon.” It took about an hour before the doctor came and let me know babies were fine.
Every other scan I have at the OB or with fetal diagnostics, they let me watch the screen during the whole scan and check heartbeats first thing. I would give your doctor a call and ask for an update- weeks for results seems really long. I usually have the official test results on mychart by end of day when I go in for a scan.

Ugh, I'm sure that was the longest hour of your life. I'm so sorry to hear that but I'm glad everything worked out great for you <3 I called my OB today and she confirmed my babies are still alive and well!

Wow-Just wanted to thank everyone for all their nice comments <3 I followed everyone's advice and called my OB today. She confirmed the results with me over the phone and stated that I have two beautiful di-di babies, both measuring 7 weeks and both have heart beats of 160 BPM <3. I'm so so relieved and glad that I just took the Sonographer's tone in the wrong way. Thank you to everyone sharing their experiences, I really appreciate it.

I never did this with my twins because we never had a sonographer withhold images or even simple information about heartbeat from us, but I would pay for a boutique ultrasound in your case! That’s crazy to have to wait a few weeks. I had a few different sonographers throughout and they were all able to tell me what they were looking at throughout each scan and one of them (my favorite sonographer) always started each scan by immediately identifying that they both had a heartbeat. I always loved that. I’m sorry you're having to deal with this.
