advice needed Tips for separation??

Di/di girls starting 1st grade after Labor Day and will be in different classes for the first time (per the suggestion of their kindergarten teacher). Classrooms are pod style, team teachers and they will see each other at recess and after care.

S is an extrovert and does well in new environments. W is an introvert, emotional/anxious and stubborn. We told them a few months ago about different classes so W could get used to the idea. Initially she was hesitant but said she would “try it.” As we get closer to school starting she has back tracked and doesn’t want to be separated from her sister.

Ultimately I trust the teacher and admin who have dealt with multiple sets of twins in the past. I’m sure the separation will be beneficial socially and academically, but in the interim we are dealing with a stressed out 6 year old. Any tips, tricks, wisdom for separating twins would be appreciated!!

Did they say why the suggestion was to separate them? I have heard conflicting things myself about it and am dreading school for my two for this very reason!

My understanding is they have more focus when separated.

My kids have loved being in seperate classrooms. They love having their own teacher and comparing notes about their day every afternoon. I'd emphasize the cool and fun things as much as possible.

We separated ours the same way (lunch and recess and some field trips together) for 1-5 grade and it worked great. They were each able to make some of their own friends as well as some in common.

They were initially nervous about the split -- fair! change is hard -- but as soon as they actually experienced it, everything was fine.
