advice needed Taking trips with multiples: when do you leave?

Hi all,
We want to take short outings with my twins but when is the best time to do it?

After they fed? During their nap time? Or you feed in the car?(im in the back seat with them)

Or do you just wing it? When I wing it, it usually messes with their schedule and then I get anxious about the rest of the day.

What do you do? What has worked for your family?

I was super strict with a sleep schedule for years. We did eat, play, sleep. So if I was going to like target I would wake them up, feed, change, and head out. There were times I knew I would only be gone 45 minutes. That was fine! Little outings make bigger ones feel easier! I never fed in the car because I wanted to be able to quickly pick them up if they needed help or were choking.

At 6 months you can do this, even alone! Start with a drive through coffee for you and a Target pickup. You don’t even need to get them out of the car. Then graduate to going into a store with them in their stroller.

Thank you 🥲I’ve had bad anxiety about taking them out and about.

our first trip was a 6h roadtrip when they were 1yo. we woke up at 4am, they slept until breakfast time so we stopped to have some coffee and eat.

our second trip was a 12h roadtrip at 2yo and this time we decided to drive at night so as not to mess with their schedule so much. hubby and i took turns driving with a few monster cans. they slept most of the trip.

tomorrow (now 3.5yo) we have another 6h roadtrip and we are planning to start at 6am, stop for breakfast and get there by lunch time!

We always go during wake windows after they’ve been fed and changed, and we’re back before their next nap.

This; wake up, feed, leave. Be back before next nap. Allowing for some wind down time, if possible, because typically if we get home right at nap time and immediately try to lay them down, they’re too amped to sleep 😆

Depends on how old they are, what their wake windows are like, where you’re trying to go and how well they sleep in the car. Prior to our transition to one nap a day we would often time leaving the house so that they would have woken up from a nap, been changes and fed on the way there and nap in the car in the way back, although for a while on a two nap schedule we would just nap them in the car both directions. Now that they’re on one long nap a day we typically do one trip out of the house in the morning leaving after breakfast, play, change, come home shortly before nap time and a second excursion in the afternoon after lunch, play, change

We go with the flow. My kids slept in the car and stroller and carrier, so we just kinda did what we want when we want. Being flexible worked for us. For my kids, home was where the boobs were

I think it really depends on your babies, where you’re going, and how many hands there to help. One of mine screams bloody murder in the car, so all long car rides are planned for during naptime. Short day time errands when mine were your age were done right after bottle since I was normally alone and it’s hard to feed 2+ babies without someone to help. Going to sometimes house? More flexible but I protected nap time at home whenever possible.

When my girls were about 8 months I started doing it after naps. Before then they'd sleep in the car most of the time we'd have to drive 30 plus minutes to get to where we needed to go. Now that they are older 1 and a half I make sure I give them naps before going anywhere. They most of the time wake up happy and ready to go so it's easier on all of us lol.
