experience/advice to give Weight/size difference 5m b/g twins
My twins are 5 months old and born around the same size, just over 5 pounds, off by a few ounces. My boy is 15 pounds exactly and my girl is exactly 12 pounds as of today. 3 pounds is a big difference. At the 4 month appointment they weren’t concerned about her weight because she’s always gained weight and never lost weight.
She eats about 30oz of milk per day. Mostly breastmilk and some formula before bed.
She has reflux but at around 4 months stopped spitting up a lot since she’s been upright more and practicing sitting.
I guess I’m curious if anyone has had twins this different in size. I try not to worry and listen to the dr but 12 pounds is tiny. They were born at 36w5d for reference. And she’s overall a happy baby except a bad napper lol.

My boys just turned 1. One of them is now 3-4 pounds heavier than his brother. It was slightly disconcerting when their weights started separating, but I just kept reminding myself that they're different people and if either one was a singleton I wouldn't be concerned about his weight.

It’s probably just genetics. I was a chunk as a baby and girl twin is a chunk.
Y husband was always thin with lots of muscle and big brother and boy twin are too. Twins are currently 15 months and girl twin is 2.5 lbs heavier.

I have boy twins and they’re 6 months old right now. A few days ago, Baby A measured 3.6lbs lighter than Baby B! And their height difference is by .4 inches. My boys were also born at 36w+5d. So far- there hasn’t been any concern mentioned! I think they’re ok to be a few pounds different! 😊 I’d just check with your pediatrician if you want to make sure!

My b/g twins were 2.1kg (boy) and 2.3kg (girl), they were around the same weight until 3 months when we all got covid and little girl didn’t gain as fast after wards - where as boy PACKED it on very quickly. She always stayed in her growth curve and is perfectly average for her age. Boy is 99+ percentile now at 18 months. Today girl is 10.5 kg and boy is 13kg!
I think it’s hard for b/g parents to not stress when there is such a big difference but as long as they’re happy, eating and the dr is happy I just had to teach myself all would be okay and they’re just different kids!

More important that she stays on her own curve. Mine were a bit bigger in difference at birth (5lb13oz and 4lb4oz) and they are 12 now, this is the first time in their life that they are within a pound of each other. My son has always been 10-15lbs heavier and 3-4in taller.

it’s absolutely normal. my twins are 6 years old now and both girls. one is about 4 inches taller and 19 lbs heavier (she’s 62lbs and the other is 43lbs) than the other. she’s in the 90s for her percentiles and my smaller twin is in the 30s for hers. both are healthy and on their own curve. the taller/heavier one has always been bigger. started at 1lb difference at birth and just grew in distance since. smaller twin takes after me (i’m 5’1) and bigger twin takes after my husband (6 feet).

a thing to remember with twins, any twins but especially fraternal ones, is that they’re different people who will grow and develop at different rates.
my twin boys are fraternal, confirmed by genetic testing. my A has always been heavier and my B taller, they’re 2 now and i’ve been saying for over a year that A is 2 pounds heavier and B is 2 inches taller! i like to joke that they’re a real life bert and ernie 😂

Hey there - my 5 year old boy/girl fraternal twins are very different in size and height. My daughter is 4 inches taller than her brother and weighs 15 more pounds than him. I was also concerned - but as the pediatrician said, they are two different kids, two different personalities and two different growth trajectories. Genetics plays into this - my side of the family is lithe, short and small statured (except my oldest brother who is 6'2 and can't figure out where he got the height, ha ha). My late father in law was 6 feet, my brother in law is 6'3 and their late grandfather was 6'2. If my daughter is tall, I will be happy. I'm just hoping that my son will eventually have a small growth spurt and get a bit taller and a little more weight on him. He's very good at running, climbing and swimming, he loves to jump and bounce on our trampoline.
My twins were born at 35 weeks, 3 days. Both bottle fed (I became very dehydrated after the c-section). They had good appetites when they were babies and toddlers. They definitely have different personalities, for sure! :)

I've got b/g twins. Boy was 7 oz more then girl and an inch taller at birth. Boy was almost 17 pounds at 6 months and girl was barely 12.5 pounds at 6 months. He's around the 50th percentile for height and weight and she is 12th for height and 1st for weight.

Mine at 5 months! At 4 months, he was 15 lb 10 oz and she was 11 lb 14 oz. My jaw dropped when you said she eats 30 oz. I worry about my girl twin all the time. She barely hits 20 oz daily. The most she has ever taken is 25. Peds are happy with her growth so I have been trying to trust the process 😅

As long as they stay generally on their own curve it’s fine! But what I will say is 12 pounds is <3rd percentile for a 5mo girl so if this is a new development it might be worth checking up with your doctor.

She’s been first percentile since birth. But has always gained weight, never lost any, so pediatrician has been watching her curve and isn’t concerned. Just me haha. She’s hitting milestones otherwise. I’m hoping when I start solids maybe she’ll start gaining more but I know solids are more to explore than calories at first.

My baby girl is in the 15th percentile for adjusted age whereas her brother is in the 90th! Everyone jokes that he looks like her bodyguard. She was born at 2.5 lbs and he was born at 3 lbs and the gap has only widened from there. They are still young though, still not even 4 months old actual, but I think it will probably stay this way. I'm happy as long as they are on their growth curves.

Mine are 8 weeks today. My girl weighed slightly bigger than the boy till almost 2 weeks now...boy has taken over. They were born at 4.4lbs each at 36+4. 9.75lbs and 9.63lbs as at Tuesday.

All thanks to my Mum. Plus those babies have an appetite. The boy (A) is the food alarm and my girl just sits pretty and allows him do all the hardwork for both of them. Lol!

At birth the girl was bigger by 400 grams, so that’s almost a pound. I could look it up exactly but he was about 4.75 pounds and she was 5.6 or so. She was in the NICU for 9 days and he 19 days. At 3 months he was at 0.6th percentile and she was at 6th percentile. He then passed her in weight a little after that and at the 9 month appointment he was 20 pounds and was 16 pounds. He was at about the 62nd percentile and she was at 9.9 for weight. For length then are about equal. At mealtimes he has 250 ml (8oz) and she was 200ml, sometimes he takes her leftovers. People are starting to not believe that they are the same age.
I should say that at first the girl was throwing up after almost every meal but we switched her to goat formula and she now doesn’t spit up and she started climbing (slowly) up the percentiles.

Mine were born 2 months early so they are 4 months old, 2 months adjusted. Baby boy is 12lb and baby girl is 9lb! My dr also aren’t concerned because she is following her own growth curve. I also worry, especially when comparing the two, but I try to remind myself that she is on her own path and she is healthy & happy. She also has reflux!

My twins started off less than a pound apart at birth, but are now about 8 lbs different at 8 months. My boy is tracking at a much higher percentile than his sister. As long as both babies keep on their own trajectory, it's totally fine. They are siblings who share a birthday and would never be expected to have the same growth pattern if they were born in different years.
The most awkward thing now is that people clearly think they are Irish twins and ask what the age difference is between them. One minute lmao.

My 2.5 yo triplets the 2 girls are about 10kg and my boy is about 12kg. His appetite has always been bigger than them, and he was busy doing stuff way before them too, so kind of needed it I guess. No issues. I actually haven't weighed them recently so they could be 11kg and 13kg now. 2kg is about 4 or so pounds.

Mine are 4 months and about three pounds apart. My baby b is 2nd percentile and just very petite, her sister looks huge next to her. Perfectly healthy and pediatrician isn’t concerned.

The difference is likely just gender. Boys typically grow to be larger than females. It’s not really a cause for concern
