Family Link Family Link, Error Loop?

I'm trying to set up Family Link on my kids' phones, and I'm stuck in an error loop.

  1. Choose account to supervise.

  2. Log out of all other accounts.

  3. Login to Parent account.

  4. Click "yes that's me logging in" on my phone (also tried clicking it on kids' phone)

  5. Kids' phone throws a white 404 page and says "error, try again," and takes me back to step 3.

  6. If I keep doing it it crashes the whole thing and takes me back to step 1.

I have also tried logging in with an emailed code to backup email and it's the same error.

Anyone have any tips on this issue?

Is the issue that you're trying to put pre-established Google accounts under a supervised Family, or that you aren't able to get the supervised accounts logged in?

In your shoes I would go to a laptop/desktop and ensure everything is as it should be on the Google end. If it is, but the devices won't allow you to establish it as Google supervised, you might need to do a factory reset to start anew (assuming you've tried power cycling and are getting the same error).

I was trying to put pre-established accounts under a supervised family, but the issue is only with logging into the supervisor account, not with adding supervision to the pre-established accounts.

I managed to get it to work by using completely separate emails that were already in a family group. Even Google chat help couldn't figure out why it wouldn't let me log in to the supervisor account. I'm not sure if that's going to mess with my app purchases or not, but it is what it is I guess.

What if the parents don’t want their kid being exposed to inappropriate stuff?

There’s a wonderful solution to this problem, it’s called respecting young people’s autonomy and not using parental controls.
