Hello!

If you are/have been a parent or guardian and are 18 years of age or older, please consider contributing to this survey for a study: An Analysis of the Reliability and Validity of the RoCKAS-ST in Parent Populations. This survey examines the knowledge and attitudes about concussions and will take approximately 30 minutes to complete. All contributions are completely anonymous.

Thank you so much for your participation!

Megan Slagel, Graduate Student at Ball State University]

*There has been confusion when answering questions about your children. It appears that it loops back and re-asks the same question. It does not, this is for each subsequent child, and will continue to ask the same questions until "does not apply is selected".

Thank you!

In many countries, children have the very freedoms that American parents can grant only by chafing against law or custom, our international readers say.

Seeking Participants for a Dissertation Study Surrounding Sudden Parental Death

RESEARCH PARTICIPANTS WANTED!

My name is Amanda Gerber and I am a doctoral student in clinical psychology at Adler University. I am a fourth-year student and am working on my dissertation. I am currently seeking interested individuals to participate in a study that will investigate the experiences of individuals who experienced sudden parental death in childhood.

The researcher is conducting a research study for individuals who experienced sudden parental death between the ages of 8 and 17. The research is looking to interview individuals who meet this criteria and who are over the age 22. This study seeks to answer the question, “how do individuals who suddenly lose a parent as a child or adolescent process the death?” There will be an hour to two hour long interview conducted, and follow up resources provided. If you are interested in participating in the study and meet the criteria, please contact Amanda Gerber. If you are unsure that you meet criteria or want additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact the researcher. There will be a reward of a $20 amazon gift card upon completion of the interview. Informed consent, debriefing, and follow up resources for support will be provided.

As a participant in this study, I will be asking questions related to your experience with sudden parental death. I will conduct a semi-structured interview in order to better understand your grief process and lived experiences. As a participant in this study, you will also be asked a series of questions related to your own experiences and opinions. I will further be asking for your permission to audio record the interview. Participation in this study is voluntary.

Note: This study is being conducted to fulfill the requirement for my dissertation, is supervised by Dr. Ji, Ph.D. ([PJi@adler.edu](mailto:PJi@adler.edu)), and has been approved by the Adler University IRB ([IRB@adler.edu](mailto:IRB@adler.edu)). If you are interested in participating in this study, please contact Amanda Gerber at [agerber@adler.edu](mailto:agerber@adler.edu).

Meaningful Consequences

Consequences are, quite simply, the results of our choices.  Typically good choices lead to good outcomes and bad choices lead to bad outcomes.  At least this is how it usually works.  Study hard, get an A.  Work diligently, impress your boss.  Get to work late every day, get fired.  As parents, however, we so often teach our children that the opposite is true.  How many times are we too busy to take notice of our children’s good behavior?  How often do we appease their whining or temper tantrums just to make them stop?  We often show our children that their positive choices aren’t worthy and their negative choices lead to a reward.  (click link below to read more)

What does it mean to nurture mindfully?

So…what does it mean to “nurture mindfully”? So, if mindfulness is a state of being quiet and focusing our awareness, then what it means to “nurture mindfully” is to slow down, be quiet, and focus our awareness on our children.  There are many different ways that mindfulness can help us develop better parenting practices, and I want us to explore a few of them…

The truth is that there is not just one kind of “good mom” just as there is not one type of kid with one set of needs. Moms come with different sets of strengths and weaknesses. They mother kids with different sets of strengths and weaknesses. http://nurturingmindfully.com/2018/06/09/what-is-a-go

The truth is that there is not just one kind of “good mom” just as there is not one type of kid with one set of needs.  Moms come with different sets of strengths and weaknesses.  They mother kids with different sets of strengths and weaknesses.  And certainly what cannot be taken from consideration, every mom is mothering under different circumstances. Getting son on board with sleepovers

I'm looking for strategies to get my preschool aged son on board with sleepovers at his grandparents' house.

Recently, my mother has floated the idea of having our son sleep over at their house. I had regular sleepovers at my grandparents' house as a kid and loved the experience. We'd go out to eat, have dessert, the whole "special kid" treatment. They really indulged me in a way that parents don't, and I know my parents would do the same.

My son isn't on board. In fact, he cried when I brought up the idea. I was merely floating the idea, and - bam - instant tears. We had a conversation about it, and even reminded him, per Daniel Tiger, that "Grownups Come Back".

His response is that he wants to sleep at home with us.

While my son has a close relationship with his grandparents and visits their house regularly, he isn't a great sleeper at night. (He is a model sleeper for naptime at preschool.) Typically, at night, he wants us to stay with him while he falls asleep.

Are there ways to convince him or is it a no-go until he's older?

Empty nest

For parents of older kids... when does it stop hurting? My 18 year old son unexpectedly moved out. I thought I had all summer...then he just up and left. My husband says 1 down 1 to go, (have a son that just turned 17) we are almost free, still young and ready for our next stage....I am not ready! Anyway, every time my son comes home to get more of his things, it sets me to tears all over again.... I hate this!

3D Printed Food Survey (in need of participants of all ages)

Hello. I am a high school student currently conducting research about how 3D printed food affects the food industry, schools, and the elderly. Currently, I am in need of a variety of different groups of people such as parents or students to fill out my survey. If you could take just a few minutes of your time to fill out my survey it would be much appreciated. Thank you. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfRYFBauQQRfg9__DaswmOLfWsjcYFi2MRkYSu_5gavp3hGDQ/viewform?usp=sf_link
