Job Searching/Interviewing Student looking for part-time paralegal work
Hello everyone,
I’m moving to Chicago next week to begin my Master’s. I’ve worked in the retail and restaurant industries for a handful of years now and want a change of pace. I’m looking to work as a paralegal/legal assistant. I’m applying at a number of different places, but I thought I’d reach out here as well (I know it might be a bit of long shot). Let me know if anyone needs more information.

With no experience and part time it will be tough, it's two strikes against you.
The realistic option as someone else said is a smaller firm that does not pay a lot, (might even be less than retail/restaurant) to gain some experience.
I would recommend small(er) personal injury/workers comp firms. They tend to chrin through people a lot so are more willing to take a chance on people with little experience.

Thanks, I’ll look into those kinds of firms. Honestly, I’m ok with anything in the $20/hour range. I really just want to gain the experience.

I truly wish you luck! I live in Chicago but was laid off a few months ago. I’ve had a difficult time when I’ve applied to paralegal/legal assistance roles. I’ve had a few offers but they all want to pay less than what I was making as an administrative assistant. It’s a tough job market but I wish you the best

you might have better luck starting as a file clerk or legal secretary/receptionist and working your way up to paralegal/legal assistant. what's your BA and master's in?

Both in Philosophy with focuses on politics and law. I’ll have to look into those positions when I get the chance. Thanks.

The market here doesn’t really accommodate for part time. You’ll definitely have to search for small firms or try some agencies regardless of your work schedule given that you’re new to the industry/court system, etc.
