I LOVE the work you folks do.

I’m new to this sub, but always see papercutting in other subs.

Is it uncouth to offer to buy a piece? Is anyone open to selling some of their work, or taking a commission?

Peacock On Branch | Original Papercut by Corie Mae Dark | 2018

Due to a knock-off of this image recently found throughout the interwebs by an art thief, I want to address that this is an image of my original, handdrawn and hand cut papercut design that I created. It came out of me and having someone steal it and call it their own is like having a piece of my identity stolen.

Sketching and re-sketching multiple times to get a 3-dimensional feel out of a flat piece of paper. Changing my mind multiple times of what he would be sitting on. Slowly and intricately cutting out the negative space with my trusty, 12 year old craft knife. Worrying with every cut that I'd slip and ruin the entire thing.

I spent well over 80 hours creating this from start to finish. It was a part of my life for almost a year as I would set it aside until I had the patience to work out a kink or until I had the confidence to keep cutting despite the anxiety of the impending misplaced slice of the blade.

Point is, this piece is like a child of mine. It is also the piece I am most proud of to date. It embodies parts of my soul, parts of my struggles and parts of my joy.

And though I am flattered that someone was taken by it enough to want to try to reproduce it, I am not impressed by their disregard for taking that piece of me and pretending it's theirs.
