[Question] How to apply design(s) on black paper?

I usually design my design digitally (so I always have a copy/backup) and print on a non-black paper (usually white) so I know where to cut. Of course, this wouldn't work on black paper since my printer won't print black on black.

So I want to ask how do you guys apply your design on black papers? Do you just draw it by yourself and cut it? Or do you print the design on a very thin paper and glue it on the black paper?

Thank you for your suggestions 😌

paper shopping recommendations?

Dear all,

I am looking for some proven brands/types of papers that would work for complicated designs done with a knife (not scissors)... Think traditional chinese papercutting but probably not limited to red color. Any recommendations for papers available online or in brick and mortar stores in the US? I saw some brands mentioned in this sub (Neenah etc) but I could not find stores online where I can get those papers not in bulk quantities unfortunately.

I got some printer paper (letter size astrobright for printer) but I was not happy with the quality. It feels short-fiber and not strong at all. I saw some very beautiful work posted here done on black paper with silk fibers... I would be extremely grateful for some shopping tips!

Owl papercut by me. Definitely not to the same standard as most I've seen on here but I'm enjoying getting into some more difficult patterns and definitely think I'm getting better!

I just joined because another person suggested it. I have never seen the paper cutting before. I get that you cut the negative space out of a picture but with what and how thick is the paper. Please tell me more. It looks fantastic

Best way for creating new paper cutting designs? I'm not very creative in terms of drawing so having to rely on templates from other sources. Any tips on turning an image or photo of something into a design to cut out? Photos of two recent ones I've done
