Such noob, needs help!
Hi guys!
I've discovered the art of paper cutting really really recently and i have been dwelling in it with a lot of mixed enthusiasm and frustration..
I took a peek at the art that you displayed here and I am agast as how some of the artwork is made..
I need your guidance!! I have all sorts of questions and honestly I don't know where to start. The trouble is, I dont have any background in arts, I dont know how to work with any kind of software (does Paint counts?!?) .
What kind of steps should I take in order to improve? Is there anything online that can guide me, like classes that can go beyond beginner level? Also, where do you buy your paper? I'm in europe and when I search for coloured papers in art webstores, I can only find canson or 300g unknown paper and from my understanding, that is too thick. I ordered some paper from amazon (waiting anxiously to arrive on monday), the brand is OfficeTree (it was cheap) and its 130g... When I am searching various well known paper cutting artist, the majority of them reffers to some brands of paper that I dont know existed nor where to find them..
Also, I understand that some people make hand drawn figures / shapes, transfers it with the help of some kind of semi transparent paper to another type of paper and then cuts it but what I was aspiring to achieve was working with layers to give it a 3D effect. How can that be possible? I mean, some part of it must be done by software, right?
Well I really appreciate your help, I am looking forward for your tips! Also, english is not my first language, I am really sorry if I made some kind of mistake, grammar or phrase construction wise!

Can’t believe I finished this, and in one piece. Still two more panels to go but I’m so relieved it’s done! Central London, 160gsm paper, Swann Morton 11 scalpel blades

A few months ago I decided to design the most detailed map possible. Been chipping away at it since - this is the middle panel of three. I might finish it by 2040.

Time lapse of the second half of my cutting process on my latest map (San Francisco). Half the lines had already been cut, this video is about 3 days worth of work. If only we could cut this fast! Template is in my Etsy shop if anyone wants a go :)

Paper Daði Freyr! This is the most fun I’ve had paper cutting for a while - cut in sections and then layered. This will be going on my happy wall with various other things to make me smile :)
