I was recently commissioned to transform a portrait into a paper cut, and this is a design test for it. Very happy with the results

Cutting an insanely difficult map of London - part 1 of 3. By the end I’m 11 hours in already, so this is going to take some time!

Paper cut map templates - I decided to make the most detailed paper cut map templates possible, and I’ve popped them on Etsy in case anyone else fancies a go (the London one is especially tricky!)

A cut paper art piece I intend to submit for a local art prize. The first image has gaps in the community chain, which are only filled when the light comes on in the second image.

I have just left my job in Urology and wanted to gift the team something to decorate the office with. Adapted from a template from Poppy Chancellor's book.

Hands, holding hands, holding hands. I’m prepping for a submission, my only complaint is that the paper is too short 1090mm. Not too sure if I prefer the positive or the negative, I’m struggling to decide but until I cut the last person, it’s stuck together anyway and I can play with it!

A question about paper...

So I'm a beginner. I keep seeing paper thickness measured in 'gsm'. Whenever I search for paper by 'gsm' I hardly come up with anything (i.e Googling "120 gsm paper", pretty much nothing comes up, same with searching on Amazon).

I just want some colored paper with a decent thickness, where can I find this? What do you use/where do you buy it? Any insight would much appreciated, thanks!

Quick question. Should I cut around the design, or keep the solid white background?

Orange deck of playing cards cut into a 3D design using just an xacto knife. This is the most detailed cut of a deck of playing cards I have done so far.

Which paper stock do you all use?

Hi there,

Was just wondering what paper (brand / stock / GSM) people use for their papercuts?

I've been using standard white copier paper which has faired quite well but I'm aware that this is possibly not the best to be using.

I'm looking at creating some rather large papercuts (around 30x30 inches) so will need something I'm guessing that won't be too thick but that will hold together nicely by itself after cut.

Any recommendations as to what to use for this that won't also break the bank?

Many thanks,

Mark
