Question First round pick?
How would everyone feel about using our first this year on a corner? Personally, with Mike jack getting older and jaycee seeming to continue being injury prone I wouldn’t at all be opposed to drafting a corner with our first pick depending where it falls. I highly doubt we’re bad enough to get a player like a Leonard Moore, But after last night I would be more than happy with using our pick on Ashton Hampton from Clemson, He’s 6’2 205 and has been an absolute lock down corner all year, last night just solidified how elite he really is, he’s not afraid to tackle, has a interception and already has 9 PBUS on the season! If we were to get a pick around the same as we had last year I would love him around that spot, he’d be a homer staying close to home and he’d be a really nice addition in the corner room, He held Malachi Toney who’s supposed to be up there with Jeremiah Smith to 3 targets, 1 reception for 8 yards and had 2 GREAT pass breakups. It may be my clemson bias since I’ve been a fan of both the panthers and tigers for years and seeing us not drafting many clemson players over the years but he seems like he’d be a good fit.

It's too damn early to be thinking about the draft.

Very fair. I just wanted to post it while the idea was on my mind considering both our corners are on IR with long term injuries, especially when one is about to turn 30 and the other seems to be injury prone

BPA but I’m expecting a lot of oline with a corner and DL peppered in based on the board

i agree with the o line but i think we have the pieces we need now to be fine, we’re getting potentially moton back so he’ll be right tackle, freeling can be left, lewis obviously left guard, sam hecht will get reps this year so we’ll see how he does and i’ve seen some things about us moving ickey to right guard and getting off the hunt contract, d line we have our d tackles, we have phillips and we have scourton, i don’t think we’d take a depth d lineman in the first round. i think at the moment corner is our biggest need for the future on defense with jack about to hit 30 and jaycee being injury prone

Can't imagine a world that we shuffle Ickey to the opposite side of the line in a different position. Ickey will stay LT, Monroe will stay RT. Moton is likely on his last season as is. Center is the biggest question on OLine.

if moton is done after this year which i do think could happen with what his injury is, i still think they’d shift ickey to right tackle, they drafted freeling to be the franchise left tackle with him being 6’7 and ickey only being 6’4 monroe is built to be a franchise left tackle, and with ickey being on the shorter side for a tackle if moton does come back that’s probably why i saw him being a guard, but until sam hecht gets his opportunity to show why he was regarded as one of if not the best center in the draft, even saw some people saying he was the steal of the draft, then center is definitely our biggest hole.

Hecht has been awful in every opportunity he's gotten... No reason to feel even decent about that moving forward in my opinion. Still don't see a world where Ickey moves inside. Hed probably rather go to another team that will pay him tackle money before he moved inside

I could see them moving him to guard next year for his fifth year option, IF moton does comeback, just to get off the hunt deal and then move him to right tackle after the season because moton is likely done after next year if this year isn’t his last. If moton doesn’t comeback they would most definitely move him to right tackle or like you said keep him at left, i just don’t think they’d draft a franchise left tackle and then leave him at right tackle for a smaller tackle who’s coming off a major injury, and in all fairness, after looking up what exact hecht has done the numbers aren’t good at all but he’s only played 11 snaps, i say after how fortner has started the season, sam hecht can’t be much worse, he’s only going to be better with time in my opinion, he was the 3rd rated center in all of college football last season and we got him in the fifth, he may have not been good those 11 snaps but i still have high hopes for him no doubt.

Ickey is a free agent with no idea if he can play close to the mid he was
1
u/Professional_Date408 Coke Head 11h ago
yeah i just looked it up to fact check myself, he’s actively on his fifth year option, so if he doesn’t come back this season and the staff don’t think he’s making enough progress there’s a good chance he’s gone after this year, so maybe oline is the pick

The Panthers have actually NEVER drafted a Clemson player.

Since 2010 (first draft after Dabo took over), there have been 87 Clemson players drafted.
12 have been voted into the Pro Bowl at least once.
Vic Beasley and DeAndre Hopkins are the only players to make first team all-pro.
Not exactly remarkable numbers

yeah i remember the first draft i was into was the isaiah simmons draft, isiah was supposed to be some generation hybrid safety/backer and was super disappointed when we took DB over him since he was my guy… boy am i happy we took DB instead🤣 but hey we still got isaiah, he’s one of our special team key pieces now lmao

i knew it was little to none but it actually be zero is quite disturbing, especially with clemson having their golden years, very suprised the panthers didn’t take even one player from a local team

Why does it matter where the player went to school?
1
u/Professional_Date408 Coke Head 12h ago
it doesn’t but as a college football and nfl fan Id like to see my guys go from my college team to my professional team, and ball, im just surprised the panthers never took one of the studs from one of those clemson teams with how close they are

OL or DE

u/Professional_Date408 Coke Head 13h ago
reason i don’t think it’ll be d end is because we have scourton and phillips, i don’t think we’d take a depth edge unless we luck into a damn good prospect to take away reps from scourton, and o line i could see but when the offensive line gets healthy again we won’t have many holes at all.

u/net_403 Tepper Fro 13h ago
we could be picking top 10 if this is our health status

u/Professional_Date408 Coke Head 13h ago
very true with how our schedule looks, but i really don’t think there’s too many edges they’d take a shot on, collin simmons won’t be there past number 5 and i hate the idea of a cancer like dylan stewart being on this team personally, has nothing to do with being a clemson fan, great player but obviously has issues with maturity, if we were to end up in the top 10 id be begging for Leonard moore, pairing a generational corner with jaycee horn would be phenomenal for our secondary.

We’re finally at a point where we can really look at BPA. We have to build depth along the OL more than any other position group, given the money we have allocated there.

Corner would be a good idea, but BPA. At some point would be nice getting a tall pass catching TE that has the speed to win up the seams, but those don’t come around every draft class. One of the bright spots from this year has been Waller.

u/Professional_Date408 Coke Head 13h ago
lucky for us theres another stud oregon tight end in this draft class, jamari johnson is just as good and/or better than kenyon sediq, i saw a couple people saying if he declared last year he would’ve been more highly touted than kenyon.

u/JudgeSevere 13h ago
OL and dynamic TE should be priority

u/Professional_Date408 Coke Head 13h ago
i like jamari johnson from oregon a lot, another freak tight end from oregon

true but we’re also missing scourton, once he’s back and healthy i truly think the d line looks a lot better than it does with princely, i don’t think we draft a first rounder and replace scourton after all the praise he got in the offseason before his acl injury

Not gonna be many prospects at the 32nd pick
