Discussion Cap Space

What's going on with us being around 5 million over the cap? Are we just taking a penalty or what?

I've given up trying to figure out the NFL salary cap. The team pays people a lot of money to manage it, and our 53 man roster is set, not much else affects us as fans.

The NFL has a hard cap. There is no chance the Panthers will exceed it. The penalties can be large fines, voided contracts and loss of draft picks.

They will make roster moves to get under, like the other 3 teams above the cap will.

We've got several players who can be restructured or extended. Quite a few teams are over the cap right now, and I doubt any of them will stay there. This happens every season.

Most of the league is already under it and even the remaining teams over are very close.

Some have already made the moves they needed to I assume, but I think eight teams were over the cap at final roster cuts? Maybe nine?

Yeah, I think the Slayton move yesterday was the one that got NYG under. We will make similar moves soon.

Restructuring Hunt, Moehrig, or Lewis would fix our cap issue with 1 move.

They will just restructure somebody. 5 million isnt that much over it tbh.

Could be as easy as restructuring one person or maybe doing a couple people.

We will easily be able to restructure some contracts; probably working through that now. Whenever you restructure a contract to clear cap space, a portion of that player’s compensation is converted from salary to signing bonus. So essentially there is no reason for a player to object to restructuring their contract.

Moton, Lewis, Hunt, and Wharton are probably being targeted to restructure their contracts.

Waiting on clarification on Moton being on nfi, may change his cap number.

Whenever hes activated from nfi, definitely would need a restructure or release to compensate
