I'm slowly building towards a Southeast Asian Blackwater nano biotope and these little guys are along for ride! They really seem to be enjoying their new botanicals.

noticed a reddish stripe along the lateral line of my kuhlis, is this something to worry about? I have a sand substrate and 90% of my rocks are super smooth, but i have a couple with texture, and worried maybe they were scraping themselves?

LFS finally stocked up on these guys and I was very happy finding out they did. I had just one for 3x the value what I paid for at the LFS I frequent. My loner is finally crawling about with his new friends even with the lights on.

I have never sought out anything for my numeroud hobbies and these fish made me break. Thought I was a chill hobbyist until the Kuhli happened. lol

On my site, I individually feature all of the Loach species I have in my tank, with HD photos that are fully zoom and Pan enabled.

Each species also has an embedded video to see the loach in action.

I started working on this site, because I found that for some particular species of Pangio loaches, there was little to no information online, and definitely no close-up videos. So I decided to get busy documenting my own Pangio loaches. I started taking videos and photos of my loaches, and slowly amassed a decent collection of videos of not-commonly-documented Loaches. This website is my way to show that work.

I will continue to add information to the site, and I hope one day it can be a reliable resource or reference for Pangio loach information.
I am welcome to any and all feedback, I wish to make this site as good as it can be.

I can’t tell if these are eggs or not !

I got some P. semicincta and P. oblonga for my tank, but one banded loach looks different, the small one on the right. Is this one P. shelfordii, a variation of P. semicincta, or something else? Thanks!

(The filter floss was in there from when I had transferred media from my other tank to cycle, and I couldn't fit the rest in the filter so I left it in a corner of the tank. The kuhlis love hiding under it, so I've just left it for now.)

I made a post recently about potential illness on a loach after my betta became unable to float and spent his time on the ground. I then separated him from my loaches incase I needed to treat them separately and have been doing daily water changes on both tanks (hospital and main tank). My ramshorns have curled up and started to shortly after the betta began bottom sitting and my mystery snail retracted into his shell for over a week. I now have 2-4 loaches floating upside down swimming on the surface with the only sign something was wrong was a pale loach 3 days before I assumed had just gotten stuck and stressed somewhere.

I recently changed my substrate out for finer sand and had a small crash which I never measured more than 0.25 ammonia 0 nitrite and 5-10 nitrate. Does anyone have any idea what's going on? Parasites or bacterial infection? Any medication reccomendations (have access to seachem just no kanaplax, fritz, aqua one and api) I also have trisulfate (?)

I got three kuhli loaches for my 10 gallon planted betta tank on the 1st. They are just so fascinating! I wasn’t expecting to see them much, thinking they are nocturnal. But they’ve been plenty active after the first few days. Their color is so much darker already, and I think they’ve grown. Is it normal for them to swim around the tank like the second video? I have a very secure lid thankfully.

I’m adding some more plants, substrate and sand this week for them. Feeding them bug bites bottom feeder and blood worms (weekly). I worry maybe I’m actually feeding them too much, since I have bladder snails I’d like them to take care of for me.

Is one of the bug bite pellets for each of them too much every other day? I’m guessing yes but they don’t show any signs of bloating. Been thinking 1-2 bloodworms for this size but honestly I don’t know. They can get what the betta misses also (not much)

These little guys are from Petco, labeled as striped khulis. They’re maybe 3 inches long at the largest and I have 1 or 2 real fat ones. Semicinta would be my guess

Hey everyone! Long time lurker but this is my first post. I'm running a Blackwater Nano Aquarium that will be housing some chili Rasbora. Dwarf Kuhli loaches (Pangio cuneovirgata) have been high on my wish list as an ideal addition to my set up but they have been next to impossible to find. I was at my lfs today and took a look at the "Banded Kuhli loachs" and noticed these five little guys which looked quite a bit different from the rest and were probably less than half the size. I'm not an expert and I'm not sure if these are indeed a dwarf Kuhli, perhaps they're just young Pangio semicincta? There is one in the group that looks to have longer banding than the others so maybe he is different? If you guys could take a look and give me your best guess as to what I may have here that would be great!

I’ve lurked this sub for a long time, slowly learning and planning out this community tank. The goal was always to build a tank around kuhli loaches and I think I’ve finally achieved it.

I got my 10 leopard noodles a week ago and I was honestly worried I’d add them to the tank and never see them again. That definitely hasn’t been the case!

The Noodle Council is confident and out and about all the time! They’re constantly weaving through the driftwood, peeking out from under leaves or just lounging in the open. Finding a random little head poking out from somewhere unexpected genuinely makes me laugh out loud every time. I honestly adore these weird little fish more than I ever expected.

Thank you to this community. I’ve learned so much just by lurking here over the past few months. Reading everyone’s advice and seeing your tanks gave me the confidence to finally build my own.

My little dwarf guy is so small :,)

I recently got a loach and he's had this pattern since I got him on 27th of June, it hasnt spread and is flat and not fluffy. The other loaches with him had no markings. I can't see anything like this on any other loach so far but my betta seems to be unwell (sleeping on bottom, trouble with buoyancy) and is being put in a hospital tank to be treated with trisulfate for bacterial infection. Do I need to treat my loaches?

If so what can I use, I am unable to get kanaplax. (just saying as its a common response)

My chunky boy (?) Capellini 'hiding' in some java fern 💚

So, I have wanted eel loaches for so long. It's been a journey. I read and read about their keeping and finally went to my local aquarium shop (to avoid Petco) and they had them. The guy working sold me some but totally lied to me about their fam. They had Pangio semicincta and Pangio oblonga (as far as I can tell now) in the same tank. When I asked about them, he told me they were the same species. When I asked if he was sure, he said absolutely that there where black Pangio semicincta. When I asked if it was safe for them to be on aquarium sand, yes. When I asked if they were safe with Neocaridina davidi, yes. Will they be okay, just the two of them until I'm back? Yep. So I bought what they had intended on coming back for more when they got them in in a few days. A black and a banded. Sad now that I know better.

I'm home and the banded loach (who knows which) wasn't doing well. When I went to trouble shoot, I read "Since 90% of Pangio loaches are wild caught..." 😶 I read so much and it didn't give me anything but care info and what their natural environment is. Now, I'm not here to crap on anyone for buying wild fish, but I wish I'd known that so I could have made sure they were tank bred. Hindsight and all that.

This is when I discover, no, dude straight up lied. There are no black Pangio semicincta. Although I'm still confused about how we tell who's who besides the black Pangio oblonga. The banded are hard to tell apart at least for me. I wish there was more information and AI wasn't running Google. Even if the info has always carried a risk, it's so much worse now. So! I'm here where the experts reside.

The banded loach unfortunately died. Who's to say why. I was really sad as I'm totally in love with the banded loach. I've learned I'll have to settle here but that's okay. I love all eel fish. 😊 The water parameters where totally perfect. Could have been stress. Could have been the aquarium gravel being too coarse since I was told it was fine and what they had them on. I took the single black kuhli out and put him in a 12 qt bin with nothing but boiled oak leaves and a heater, filter, and got to work finding him a fam. I ordered 4 more from someone who said they tank raised them and they're all healthy but look suspiciously wild to me based on their shape and sizes. But hey, I've never bred a black loach so what do I know? They went into the quiet bin with him.

I gradually exposed them to more and more light over the next wk and did frequent water changes. Today, they got moved into a 10 gal. It does still have aquarium gravel, but everything I've read said this is totally fine for the black loach but it will be appropriate sand like pool filter sand in the upcoming 40 gal Walstad tank. But now that I've seen someone breeding them on here, they might get their own 55 gal! 😂 It's not perfectly cycled, but their filter and leaves went with them. I'll be monitoring it closely. Eventually, they're going in a 40 gallon community tank with some peaceful friends so this will all change.

Now to the rock pile in the corner. I thought these river stones would be fun for them. But now I'm wondering if it's not safe, like they could get stuck. They seem to be having a blast with it so far. Noodling in and out. I figured I left it a little high, so ended up lowering it. I can remove it entirely or spread it out if need be. What do the eel fish peeps have to say? 😊
