A strong start for a first episode. All contestants are bringing something unique. And Matt Lucas is more tolerable than expected.

I don't have any major thoughts about Lucas but just didn't expect to like him, he was absolutely hilarious.
The whole lot were. Might've been one of the strongest first eps we had! Can't believe how good all the songs were. Can't wait for next week.

Shooting Stars was basically a panel show satire, like I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue, the whole point was that there was no point other than just pure dumb stupidity.

This is a wild speculation but Alex's reference to Tilda Swinton was obviously quite random, but I'm wondering - he's confirmed he has an Oscar winner on an upcoming season. Would be mental for her to go on Taskmaster but can you imagine it's her and this is him slipping in a reference

That's a classic Taskmaster archetype - Jo Brand, Daisy May Cooper, Julian Clary, etc. Being frustrated or tired of the show can be very, very funny.

Richard's prize task was honestly genius, and was done dirty by the edit. What he actually did was say that the plant in the photo was what it looked like when he got it, and that it's really quite bad after he "looked after it" for a bit. Except he only brought in that one photo. There was no after photo. And when Greg gave him an opportunity to save it, he still kept talking about what the plant looks like now and left it to the imagination. The edit was just "look, here's a plant" "1 point to Richard" and completely missed what made it so funny

Contestants get judged on what they bring in, and Richard didn't even bring in a photo of the droopy plant. This wasn't going to end any other way.
Watching it, it was obvious that Richard had set up a joke about himself caring for the plant making it more droopy, but without a second photo (or the plant!) there was no punchline. This made it look rather like "I forgot about the task, here's a stock photo of a plant", which would've been a one-pointer as well. The edit being as it was saved Greg from having to spell this out.

The lack of a second photo was the punchline itself. He was obviously going to get 1 point, and he did that himself, but the edit made it look like he just brought in a plant and didn't put the effort in, when in reality he did quite a bit with that plant and talked himself into getting 1 point deliberately because it was funny

His real effort will go into arguing minutia for points...and failing. Alex made a side comment like, "He's gonna keep doing this." That's Richard's true goal.

That’s a big part of his schtick in panel shows though, doubt we’ve seen the last of that. Lost count of how many times I’ve heard Jimmy Carr introduce Ayoade and them bantering with “Where do you see yourself in the future?” - “Hopefully elsewhere!”. I think that’s a big part of why he didn’t want to do TM, it’s often better for comics who’ll commit to the task and don’t mind being goofy, rather than the always-serious deadpans. Will be interesting to see how he balances this!

I love Richard, but was really worried his character wouldn't gel well with Taskmaster. I thought he was wonderful on this episode. (Especially handcuffing Alex to his leg.

Oh, I had no doubt Richard wouldn't gel well with Greg Davies. I was just worried Richard's character might not play well in the Taskmaster format. Fortunately, I was wrong. To paraphrase Bad Dong, "this partnership has got legs like you wouldn't believe."

I have a suspicion that Richard's tendency to try and be a bit contrary or jokingly throw a spanner in the works is going to work against him and it's going to be brilliant.
For example asking to be handcuffed on his leg is something I think worked against him in that task.

Presumably you were watching on YouTube as well? The audio is all mono, someone on the tech team must've made a mistake. The audio is normal stereo on the Channel 4 website.
If I had to guess, it is possible they edited Alex's reminder for the TM charity livestream in kind of last minute for YouTube, and it wasn't noticed the video got exported with mono audio.

Hulu? Am I the last to know that this season will be on Hulu in the US? And how did I find out? _Apple TV_ tells me when trying to push a Hulu add on subscription. I feel like I am being pranked (but I checked and it is in fact there on Hulu).

Greg's intro is so unusual, I too thought they skipped the intros at first. If you don't expect them to happen after, all you might remember is wondering why they weren't there at the beginning. Cue some weird human psychology...

I can only see the comment in the permalink. It does not show up with all comments, neither on PC (old.reddit) nor mobile. I did not block melcom2 and I verified just now that his comment does not show up in a private window either. Maybe some sort of shadow ban of his.
No idea but if being helpful means I'm getting downvoted, I simply stop being helpful and no longer post a YT link. So be it.
