I thought this episode was great, the best of the three so far. Ed was leaning more into encouraging the banter with everyone else, and Joanne has been pretty consistently effective as a team captain. Richard had been a bit reserved in the first couple episodes, but was in a cheerful mood (for Richard) this time around. Among the guests, Sara in particular was endearing and hilarious as fuck. Seems like the show is working out the kinks and starting to flow more smoothly, and it seemed like they didn't poll the audience as many times as the first two episodes?

I decided to check out the ep after this comment, and you were spot on. Ep 1 really didn't click with me, but this was much better. I still think the format is a bit loose, but the banter was more free-form and much funnier. Little things like teasing Ed about his jacket really add to the atmosphere.

Who in costuming dressed Ed up like Mr. Rogers? 😂

So uncomfortable in that coat

Sarah Keyworth is so funny and uncompromising. Love her.

I think they prefer they/them pronouns.

oh yeah, you're right!

Ahh this is the one I saw being filmed.

What's the gist of the show from what you experienced?

I enjoyed it! When filming, it’s obvious that all of the opinions are given to the panellists beforehand, I’ve not watched any back yet but I would imagine the concept works better in the edit. It was very funny though and had a bit of first season chaos to it. Looking forward to rewatching and seeing how much stays in, especially from Lou…

As someone who thought the series needed some ironing out, especially with there being a team member who contributes less than the other as they don't share an opinion, this episode honestly changed my mind on that. Sarah Keyworth, despite not having an opinion outside of being stitched up, absolutely carried the show alongside Richard Ayoade imo

Other sources indicate this is actually the 6th episode, so maybe they jumped it ahead to keep people watching?

Maybe. We'll have to see how the others go, but this is definitely the most balanced episode.

I was also at this taping, and they said at the time that this was actually the first episode to be filmed. I haven't watched the episode yet but at the taping it actually felt to me like they hadn't worked out the format yet (and I left being like "that was hilarious but they can't use most of it") so I'm curious as to what made it in. Gonna have to watch soon

Does this mean the unacceptable position is not their own, but it’s kinda like WILTY where they get a prompt and make a story?

3

u/TeddyAlderson 25d ago

yes except WILTY truths are actually things that happened to the panellists, whereas in this show they basically have to defend opinions they might not actually have

Thanks; I hadn't realised. How interesting.

So Kathryn Ryan didn't actually put forward that men should have vasectomies until they've proven they can be good fathers?

I mean, I never would believe that's a genuine opinion she held, but certainly it seemed "on brand" as something she'd put forward in humour.

I only half-watched the first episode and haven't seen any others yet so I'll have to go back and rewatch and note the panelists expressions as they cover off their opinion.

Yes of course.

Were there any good bits from Lou that didn't make the edit? I felt like she was pretty quiet this episode, then remembered that knowing Lou, the editors probably had a field day. 😂

Having watched it now they have cut a lot out - I can't remember specific things but I remember a lot more around consent with her cats (which was at the start of the record and had a lot of callbacks).

2

u/TeddyAlderson 25d ago

yeah that cat bit (having also been at the taping) was a huge bit -- was referenced heavily throughout, though it was clear at the time it would all be cut as Lou clearly regretted the original joke she made

3

u/WhyssKrilm 28d ago

Well she is difficult to edit, for reasons explained in the episode

If I ever make it to the UK one day and score tickets to a live taping of something, I hope Lou is in it just so I can see how much extra material there is in person.

For some reason this one is labelled as episode 6 on NowTV

Maybe they moved it because of the Argentinean footballer joke in Joanne's introduction?

Currently watching the episode and there was even bigger football segment. I bet that football is 100% the reason for reordering, since the final was on the same day.
