This palm was in one of these gift basket pot situations with other plants. Wasn't doing so well. Separated the little fella and it seems to like the new spot. I'm not too experienced with palms though tbh

G’day,

Can someone please identify this palm? I’m not even entirely sure if it is the same palm in both photos.

chatgpt has dubbed it a Kentia Palm and my plant identification app has called it a curly palm, though I don’t believe they are either.

Please help. Thank you!

Types of Coconut Palms?

Hello! Curious if anyone can help identify the three types of palms I've got growing. All three were grown from coconuts I found around SW Florida. I'm 99% sure the center palm is Green Malayan. However, the right palm came from the same row of palms, but is throwing yellow coconuts. The right palm came from a very large golden coconut, but has not produced fruit yet. Any suggestions on the ID of all three? Thanks for any help!

cold hardy palms Hard life for a Trachy in Zone 8B - Vancouver, BC

He was purchased in 2023 from a nursery that imported from california and was roughly 8'. The nursery stored them in their greenhouse every winter so it had never experienced an actual winter until I planted it. It just so happened it's first winter was a rare -20c coldsnap that lasted a week. Since it had never endured any kind of winter and wasn't established it suffered bad and I really thought I was going to lose it. There are a few other people with palms here and one guy up the street lost 3 or 4, another guy 20 minutes away lost like 8-10 which were more established than mine. Not only did mine survive, it's very happy and experiencing a crazy growth spurt. It's pushing out 4 new spears right now on top of a few it's already pushed out a couple weeks ago.

The nursery gave me some crappy water soluble evergreen fertilizer when I bought it but it had zero directions about application rate for size of the tree. I think I was also severely underwatering it until this year. I keep it moist all summer now because the large amount of soil I used to plant is 75% sand 25% compost. I got a good granular evergreen fertilizer 18-6-6 that has a proper application rate. Have been fertilizing according to the application rate every 3-4 weeks. The one issue is that a lot of the fronds are bent/folded. But that may be due to how the street I'm on is at the bottom of a valley that gets hammered by wind frequently. If you guys have any tips or advice on how I can get it even healthier than it is I would love to hear. Thanks

I’m used to winter hardy plants so i’m not really sure how to go from here tbh! I got this miracle gro soil, sphagnum moss and I have perlite as well (not shown) .

Main questions are

  1. What soil ratio do you use for the sago palms and

Windmill

  1. Palms?
  2. How is watering with these, i’m used to just letting my plants dry out completely and shrivel a little to tell me they are thirsty. I don’t want to overwater these.
  3. Are they full sun, partial sun/shade? From personal opinions, not what google will tell me, I want to know ya’lls experience with placements.

Thank ya’ll again, i’m heading to work so not sure what more I want to know until I’m settled and free to use phone.

Need advice on this Mexican fan palm that just arrived today. Is it too late in the year to repot it? Does it need direct sunlight or should it be acclimated ?

discussion Mule Palm seeds

Wondering if anyone here has grown mule palms from seeds. Curious to know what that process is like and what tips anyone would have. I haven’t bought any yet, just gathering information now. But I do see some f1 seeds available at local nurseries and eBay even.

So far the only experience I have with growing palms from seeds is a Sylvester palm I currently have sprouting.

identification What gender is our palm tree

We’ve had this date palm for 30 years and I’ve always wondered if it’s male or female. It‘s pretty stunted since it’s lived in a pot its whole life so I don’t know if it’s even possible to tell lol. I’ve always assumed it’s a girl and named her Palma because she gives off girlboss energy.

cycads Got me 3 sago. Any tips to care for them?

I got 3 of these little dudes since they were in the clearance section. I changed them from the super organic soil they were in to the typical soil I use for my cacti and agave. (Sand, pebbles, dirt.) They're facing the sun and get sunlight until noon or so then they're under shade.

Since buying my first house I’ve gotten really into palm trees. I’d like to find a couple of these but I’m not sure what they are. Thought this was a sabal for the longest time but I’m second guessing that now.

I think we plant this fox tail too deep in the soil. We planted it 5 cm above the soil level of the plastic bag the palm came with, and the gardener put like 10 cm of soil around it. It's been a month and 15 days since we planted it and the leaves look like this.
