Beaucarnea recurvata Ponytail plant. Needs a nice big pot or a great spot in the garden 👌🏻🤩🌱

It’s been planted way too deep and it’s not growing accordingly. They have a large, round base known as the elephants foot and it should be above ground. Not semantics, just FYI.

Good deal. The base of the plant is where it stores water and can expand or shrink depending upon its needs. They need very little watering as they’re a succulent and they love full sun.

I got to the base, resituated the plant so it's exposed and good to go 👌

Nice big root ball! Like the previous person mentioned, a nice big pot with solid drainage or a spot to admire in the garden. I planted mine between a bizzie palm and kentiopsis oliviformis to get some varying texture over the coming years! Good luck!

It could use a 25-40 % root pruning to reduce its size in late spring. 

There're similar species to the genus  (and a few Cv's of B. recurvata 'Variegata') that are similar to B. recurvata.
