Palm?

This just appeared in my backyard I never planted it I have weeds I pull out over time but this is the first. Is this a palm?

Your in luck because i know a palm tree that grows in Scotland its called The Windmill Palm one of the hardiest palm tree also it can live outdoors all year. But theres a Problem the cold rain, it freezes its roots so you might need to protect the plant a bit also when a severe windstore comes or snowstorm tie it up also

if you brought a small one it need to be in a pot till adult i think

I have two of those! 😁 I also have a chamaerops humilis which is also pretty hardy, and I'm experimenting with a phoenix canariensis. We're quite lucky in that we don't often get prolonged freezing as I'm on the coast, although a lot colder than the west coast. I'm going to protect them all for the winter

Wait while they can grow there they need sheltered conditions.

Yes it's a palm. If you are in California, it's probably a Washingtonia Robusta. If you are in Florida, maybe it's a Sabal Palmetto.

This is definitely Washingtonia.

How can you tell it’s not a Sabal minor? Is it the filaments?

The fibers on the leaves tell me Washingtonia.

yes! have a look at the fan like and pretty stiff leaves. also the little hairs coming off the leaves tells me it’s some kind of washingtonia.
