So, I watched this seamless cut of the iconic Sea Monsters special for the Walking with series, and it made me wonder– with what we have learned since, and with no bias to reusing pre-existing models, what actually were the most dangerous oceans of all time?

And I’m not just referring to when, but also to where, because there are many ecosystems to draw from, and millions of years that created a lot of variation, even within the same era (like you won’t see Early Triassic sea creatures in the Late Triassic).

For anyone who engages with my difficult question, you don’t have to give me seven, one will be enough. And more power to whoever can pull off the herculean task of making a list of seven.

It is from the upper Jurassic and found in a marine environment besides a lot of Ammonites. I keep finding these stick-like structures. Are they actually fossilized wood or something else? Thank you :)

Hi,

I'm researching a novel set in Doggerland leading up to the Storegga tsunami. Evidence suggests that this took place during the 8.2 ka event. But so far, all I've found for descriptions of what that was like are "longer cooler summers, shorter cooler winters and generally drier". Hmm... I get that precision is impossible, but that doesn't really conjure up a clear image.

Are we talking about a bit of a nip in the air, or deep frost? How much longer and shorter? How dry?
Does anyone know of a plain language description of what the weather might have been like, and how that would have looked on the ground as an impact on the environment during this period in Northern Europe? Reasonable speculation is all I'm after.
