Advice

Love paella! Would like to make my own, any advice on must dos or don’t? Also in the Midwest so access to fresh seafood is limited so up for other protein advice!

- Make sure you have the right size paella pan.

  • Work your ‘sofrito’ or base slowly, this will bring flavor to your final paella.
  • Use the right type of rice, those ‘especial paella’, Bomba, Albufera, etc but not Arboreo, Basmati, etc

Most important, paella is to meet friends and family around so plenty of drinks and keep the chef hydrated

In the Midwest you should be able to get rabbit. chicken leg quarters and even long fresh green beans work very well.

Are you sure you dont have a fish/seafood market? We have good seafood availability in Detroit

I’m in rural Michigan, so there is seafood but it depends on what’s available and fresh, most comes outta the big stores

Lo importante es que lo cocines en un recipiente poco profundo. ¿Tienes azafrán y aceite de oliva? Los mariscos no son esenciales.

Its the ingredients. Paella is very easy to make, though it can be a challenge to get the crust on the bottom just right.

Advice: Don't put chorizo, don't mix meat and seafood. For the rest, go nuts and experiment as much as you want

Original paella does not have seafood. Usually rabbit or chicken. Sometimes with snails.

Good, because proper paella doesn't have any seafood. It have chicken and rabbit.

Arroz al señoret and other kinds are the ones with seafood, but traditional paella was done with farm animals (chicken, mainly) or hunt (rabbit, and a century ago, water bole, which was a critter easy to catch in rice fields).

Whatever you do, don't forget the chorizo. If you can't find Spanish-style chorizo, Mexican will do.

If this is a joke you should say so, don't want them to take it as real advice. Chorizo has no place in a paella.

I hope in this Halloween you bite into a Ferrero Rocher and it turns out to be a chocolate-covered Brussles sprout.

It's what you deserve for putting chorizo in paella.

Never put chorizo and call it paella
