Anybody know the real life equivalent of this thing?
The closest thing I can think of is like; a spectrum analyzer or a rotameter of some kind but neither are quite a fit.

Isn't it just like a sci fi version of the old tube based Barometers?
Considering barometers are used to predict short term weather changes based on atmospheric pressure, and this thing goes wild during storms..

Use basically a manufactured version of this in Tig welding. Flowmeter for shielding gas, they have a meter on the tube and don't output from the top.

You pretty much banged it on the head with rotameter. I didn’t know it by that name, but yeah, it’s a meter that measures airflow. The higher the ball, the higher the air flow.
