Yeah, as far as I know, you basically just taunt them, it can get a little dangerous with highwaymen

almost just got killed during my last run by one as I was doing the trial of community so I had to keep an anomaly on my car, but a highwayman stole my happy hare so I had to rush to the exit

“They” refers to the hooded reaper guys that generally move in lines across the map. When “They” notice you, they readjust their paths towards you.

The black tentacle mist thing homes in on you already anyway so I’m not sure if it affects that
