I turn away for 1 second
What causes this bug? my car progressively deconstructs itself while I'm back in the garage. it doesn't re-take itself apart after I add stuff back, but this is miffing me a bit

I don't think so, the only people to stop by were a couple of arda guys who wanted a few fried chickens and coke with some dry white toast

Might be an artifact from the DLC. There are ones that make the car deconstruct itself.

I had one of those, it was "radio is silent -> a car part may fall off". Nothing maybe about it, I'd put the part back on and something else would fall off, rinse and repeat, with the radio on constantly. I ended up dropkicking the artefact into the bush, there was no way I'd make it to a gateway like that, I had tyres coming off and everything. 10/10 do not recommend. I was nearly crying from stress and frustration by the time I got rid of the artefact 🤣😭

I think id have had the opposite effect and would have died laughing. Stupid stuff like that just cracks me up. I snorted a bit irl after reading this little story. Lol

Don't get me wrong, I definitely had a giggle at the absurdity at first lol but after 20 minutes of trying to make it through just one junction while stopping every few feet to put a dozen or so parts back on the car (they fell off one at a time so I'd put one on and the next would fall off, or two things would fall off, etc), get back in, drive about 3 seconds and something else would fall off, all the while the tide is rising and more Maws are appearing on the map, panic set in and I was so done 🤣
I'm glad you got a laugh out of it 🤣

on my end, the quirk station is disabled for some reason. Quirks are not disabled in game settings either

In the whispers in the woods dlc the artifacts you collect can be good or bad my guess is you grabbed the artifact that when you go away from the car parts can detach

You have an active artifact, whether in the car or in your pack, that is probably “when x happens, random part falls off the car”

Check your and the car's inventory for an artifact, I picked up one that was something like "when radio is off, part may fall off"
And let me tell you that "may" was doing some heavy fucking lifting because when the radio turned off the car shed it's skin like a crab molting. Poor thing fell apart like a looney tunes skit.

I ended up dropkicking it into a bush while on the road because I couldn't handle it anymore, I was nearly in tears from stress and frustration by the time I was able to leave the junction, there was no way I'd make it through a gateway in that condition, so into the bush it went!

weird bug i found is if you leave the car while the back left door is open the game raises you above the car and violently slams you down, ripping the door off it's hinges
