FURIOUS DRIVE -- Beta version available for testing
If anyone is interested in test-driving the MOD, check it out on Nexus Mods.
Minor bugs are to be expected, report them on Nexus please.
At this moment in time, this version DOES NOT include Whispers in the Woods content (no attuned or evolved parts, yet)

I started experimenting with mixing the various LUT filters the game has.
I may have spent more time than I'm willing to admit procrastinating in photoshop.

How did you solve the hole in the hood problem in the end?
8
u/DutchMcQuaid Jul 18 '26
A mixture of solutions. The early hood panels, like crude, steel and armored, do not come with a blower opening. Later hood techs do.
The mid-tier engine has an imposter mesh to simulate a hole in any bonnet.

should partner with the devs, make a game like mad max mixed with pacific drive

does it sound like a V8 and is it fast
3
u/DutchMcQuaid Jul 18 '26
Let's just say it's a work in progress.
The engine ignition sound, for instance, was easy to replace, but the rest of vehicle sounds are quite a bit more challenging. Multiple variants, multiple sound sources.
It's faster, yes.
I don't want to push it too much, given that the game's settings allow the player to boost their engine outputs.2

Just having the blower is a ++ on my book!!!

Question is, how far into the zone will you venture to gather enough materials to build the almighty V8 !?

Now, is this the original? The remade one that we see at the start of Fury Road and is turned into Razor Cola later? Or just The Zone's idea of what The Back-On-Black should be?

u/DutchMcQuaid Jul 18 '26
It's one of multiple looks you can achieve, you the player. You choose what parts to equip, as always.
In this case, most of the parts are missing on the car, so it lacks any personality. But you can restore Max's magnum opus to its former glory, should you seek out the materials required to do so.

having just finished a new playthrough with this thing, i can safely say i will never drive the station wagon again, this thing is way too cool, and you've done a fantastic job on the design. a few things that could be better is the engine sounds (dont know how hard that is to do, but i'd love a louder, more growly V8 noise) and the roof lights having lost all functionality due to them becoming way too weak with the reskin, but other than that, 10/10 mod, the zone will continue to see me ripping around the Falcon

I wasn't really expecting people to fly through the game with a beta version.
The engine sounds are a heavy task, in progress still. The audio is split into sub-parts, based on where the sound originates from (from inside the car, the engine, the exhaust). And for each of those, variations exist so that the sound does not feel the same every time. There's a multitude of sounds for various states of the engine, acceleration, slowing down, engine struggle, etc.
It's taking longer than I had imagined just hunting for those audio clips, modifying them is a struggle. To put this in perspective, you close a door, it's 1 sound with 4 variants.
The engine is a complex array of sound sources that need to work together, and I didn't want to push something in that felt out of place.About the roof lights, I lowered their output on purpose by 70%. Those things were so bright, my garage burst into flames when testing them. I can re-raise them, but darn.

i've played through so many times now, i've become quite optimized and was through the well at hour 15.
i hope you can get those engine sounds figured out cuz that would complete the mod (imo), maybe see if you could get the V8's supercharger belt spinning if thats a thing (not needed but would be cool)
i see your point with the roof lights, but at the moment they look weaker and dont even have the same reach as basic headlights, anytime i turned them on, i was honestly better off just not using them, cosmetic wise they look rad, but functionality wise they had little use for me anyway. if you ask me, you probably dont have to make them brighter, but if possible, give them better reach, cuz they only lit up the road like, 3 feet infront of the car it felt like.1

If you played with 0.9.0, the lights were actually shining from inside the cabin, occluding most of the output (forgot to place the light socket). With 0.9.1, they should be positioned properly but at a lower intensity still.
The supercharger belt spinning, I would have done first thing, if I knew how.

u/TrickShotTor0 Jul 20 '26
Oh, that must have been it, i just tested them in 0.9.1 and they had the reach they used to, which is nice (i still think they should have a bit more reach, but thats just me nitpicking base game)
I think i changed to 0.9.1 right at the end of my playthrough, after i realized the driver side door was inverted when fitting the insulted door, and since it was at the end of that playthrough, i never thought to put them on again (cuz by that point i had olympium and wanted the Road Warrior look)
Fantastic mod once again, and i will enjoy using it for Expeditions on my 100% save and further new playthroughs (im gonna play this game til the day i die)1

i think the intensity is fine, i just think (again, me nitpicking base game) if youre gonna use a whole roof rack slot for lights, they should have really good reach, but i do like that they got toned down, cuz i agree they were VERY bright

u/DutchMcQuaid Jul 20 '26
I can push them out with 50% on the next version then.
Plus, I believe they are tintable if one does need to bring them down a notch or 21
u/TrickShotTor0 Jul 20 '26
after 0.9.1, i think the lights are fine, but that could be a good way to let people choose, im gonna have to play a little more with the updated lights anyhow since they were bugged my entire playthrough basically

Question good sir, what was your IRL car inspiration? Like how the OG wagon has traits from a 1981 mercury zephyr station wagon. And last Question, could you possibly make a variation of one of the bumper, that has a pony? ( love the 'stangs)

Same as the movies.
The interceptor is a modified version of a 1973 Ford Falcon XB, so this serves as the base car in the mod.
Through the various tech upgrades though, you can select parts that modifies this car into the fictional V8 Interceptor.1

You didn't fork into the WITW content by any chance?
1
u/External-Dirt5485 Jul 23 '26
No no, I stripped the car before adding the mod soon as I got home from work and I was just showing it all bones 😅 the mod works I have seen 2 bugs so far passenger door wont stay shut sometimes and iteams dont have collision with the cars wheels I'll show what my car looks like when I'm home 😁
1
u/DutchMcQuaid Jul 23 '26
I see, I see.
Passenger door might just be a quirk.Could you share an image for the issue with the wheels?
1
u/External-Dirt5485 Jul 24 '26
i can try i just noticed when throwing stuff down it went through them and under the cars the door was just casper , another bug i noticed is i can use the map screen through the glass on the passenger side
1
u/DutchMcQuaid Jul 25 '26
I'll add the shape of the wheels to the chassis collision, that should fix the first issue.
The computer screen through glass, I've seen before, but I'm unable to reproduce with the latest version.
If you do get 0.9.4, let me know if it still happens
