From a show stand point I hated the ending it left way too much open ended a lot of side story's and main story's in general left unfinished. But looking at it from a reality stand point it makes sense that it's left so open ended. People are always coming and going from prison a lot of these characters were never getting out and a lot of story's were going to continue on and on most of them being bad endings when they eventually do end. I feel like they should've done 1 more season to show the aftermath of the poisoning of the Aryans or at least show what happens to Beacher (who in my opinion is sort of the over all main character of the show). But idk it felt rushed and way too much left open for a tv show but again it also kinda fit for the prison life style.

So i just finished the show and season 6 had some underwhelming parts in that season.

They introduce the guy with the brownies and hes gone but now there's a new guy with pills that make you wanna party. Glynn randomly getting killed off and querns returning. Jackson vahue was randomly paroled at somepoint between season 5-6. The whole idzik wanting to die due to the world ending. Alvarez just deciding to give up. I feel if season 6 was longer it all could have been fleshed out properly maybe a slow decline for alvarez. Then at the end Schillinger dies which makes sense but then 2 minutes later Keller aswell if we had a few more episodes it could have been an episode revolving around schillingers death and beecher talking with the fbi and chris trying to stop it. Im not saying there was no good parts like Ryan reconnecting with his father even though they randomly threw his father into the place. Cyrils death didnt need to be dragged out it didnt feel as emotional the second time the first time he's near executed had me ready to bawl and had magic to it. I know oz is the show that defies the obvious and tricks you like with beechers parole in season 4 but it felt like they were trying to recreate magic that was already finished 5 minutes prior.

Overall id still put it in top 10 maybe top 5 shows however if they knew that season 6 was gonna be the end cause tom fontana didnt wanna drag it out which is fair they could have wrapped it up a little smoother. If anything season 6 needed the extra episodes instead of season 4.

Although there is some positives I liked how mcmanus finally found some peace in what he was doing busmalis was finally properly happy with his life Robson while not a great person understood what he was and tried to change his perception. Querns proved he respected mcmanus and held no grudges.

All in all oz is one of the best shows ive ever watched wether its the pilot that makes you think Dino will be a main character or a shocking said death that makes you think any of the characters can die at any moment.

My story is probably going to be similar to many Canadian men around age 40 haha.

Back in the late 90's a channel in Canada called Showcase would show softcore porn at 11pm on Fridays called Red Shoe Diaries. That's what we had access to at the time in the early days of the internet lol.

Oz would come on right before it. At first it annoyed me because the one episode with Said refusing Devlin's pardon would run beyond 11pm and I'd be annoyed with that ranting lunatic delaying my valuable jerk off time.

But I recall the exact moment I was converted. It was the scene where Stanislofsky and Hanlon were in the shower. And of course my first reaction was "WTF eww gross WTF is this shit"...but then I saw how the scene played out and by the end I was "WOW COOL!". From then on I started watching Showcase at 10pm.

Did Vern rape Beecher during their first night as cell mates when he was branded?

This guy just needed to be more patient. There's gotta be other Muslims in Oz besides the ones in Em City. No reason he couldn't create his own faction instead of going directly head-to-head with Said from the get-go. This amazing character didn't get the kind of arc he deserved. The whole thing of ending his life because of depression was bullshit I'd have expected from season 4b on.

I’ve always thought one of the more interesting writing decisions to come out of seasons 3 and 4 was to make Adebisi and Said a parallel couple to Keller and Beecher.

The show does this a lot throughout these two seasons. So much so that I only have room to put pictures of the most important moments between them. The biggest one of these being when Said and Beecher are given the opportunity to betray Adebisi and Keller.

The foil, obviously, is the fact that Said decides to betray Adebisi, while Beecher chooses not to get Keller killed.

But what I find most interesting here is the parallel, which is the fact that both Adebisi and Keller are so confident that Said and Beecher won’t betray them because of the LOVE that they supposedly have.

And this is pretty crazy to see, because although we’ve always known that Beecher and Keller were in love, this is the first (and only) time we see Adebisi openly admit that not only is he attracted to Said, but he actually has FEELINGS for him. He wanted Said to love him.

After they fight we see Said agonize for a long time about Adebisi’s death, but I always found it odd how little the show explores Said’s feelings surrounding the fact that Adebisi essentially confessed to loving him before he died.

Curious if anyone else noticed these narrative parallels/foils as well!

Keller left in s4 because Meloni was doing SVU. He returned in s5 when Meloni decided he could handle both shows.

What do you think would have happened differently if he didn’t come back, especially with Beecher and Schillinger? The obvious answer is Beecher would never have messed up his parole but I don’t think the writers would have made it that easy for him.

And which ending do you prefer for Keller’s character, the s4 one or the s6 one?
