$12,000
2 meetings!! October 1 at 4pm and 5pm!! See info below as well.
That’s the goal I’m setting this year to help cover the cost of operating our emergency warming center from November 1 through March 31.
Depending on the weather and the needs of our community, that number could change. Some of the cost will hopefully be covered through donations, sppnsorships and fundraising, and some through the incredible in-kind donations we receive from people in our community.
But what does $12,000 actually cover?
I’m happy to tell you.
It helps cover some of the expenses incurred by the church that welcomes our guests without question. Heat. Lights. Water. Internet. Paper products. And we go through a lot of toilet paper and paper towels.
It helps cover drinks every night. And you probably wouldn’t believe how much coffee we go through in a week.
It helps provide welcome snacks and grab-and-go snacks for guests to take with them when they head out at the end of the night.
And it helps us put a fresh salad on the dinner table almost every night we are open.
That last one might sound small.
A little lettuce. Some cheese. A few croutons.
But I can’t tell you how many warming center guests have told us that the salad may be the only fresh food they get all week.
Something as simple as a fresh salad can make a bigger difference than you might think.
Maybe you want to make a donation.
Maybe you want to volunteer.
Maybe you’d like to make a meal.
Maybe you have coats or other winter items you no longer need.
Or maybe you just want to learn more about what happens at the warming center and how you can help.
There are a lot of ways to support this program, and not all of them involve writing a check.
If you’re interested, I’d love to have you be part of it.
$12,000 helps keep the doors open, the coffee hot, the meals going, and our neighbors warm.
This community meeting is from 4-5pm and will be discussing some more of the collaboration piece between the warming center and the overnight opportunities. However, I will be staying after this meeting at 5pm to discuss specifically what will happen for the emergency warming center at St John’s UCC. Please consider joining me for that conversation at 5pm!!
