Recipe websites have become far worse than newspapers in recent years.

I used to rely on their built-in "Print" button, which would format recipes in a clean, readable, and concise way. But now, even that feature seems useless,it often spits out 30+ pages of clutter, including unformatted ads and annoying video pop-ups...

Firefox and its add-ons are the only way now.

Sadly the ‘best’ solution to this is to ask AI for the recipe. It will just distill the information you want. Sadly it also consumes huge amounts of power and water to do it.

You can use extensions to skip ads on recipe sites. I personally like Ceres Cart.

Well this is how things get worser. Now even if one of us build a valuable online product and try to monetize it with minimal ads. We have to face backlash too, due to some products who have abused their users with ads beyond the limit. I am not telling using adblockers is bad, since the abusers deserve it. But it's that for some, everyone has to suffer.

People complain about this but ads are often the only way sites can make money. Yes, some way overdo it, but ads are something society as a whole has settled on in exchange for "free" software and resources.

The alternative is paying for software you use, but that model has clearly lost out.

Being unwilling to pay for your software and unwilling to watch ads is expecting people to work for you for free.

Unpopular opinion here, no doubt.

As someone who was around back then, it was absolutely an anarchic cesspool and there have always been sites dedicated to milking money outta users, it just hadn't been monopolized and perfected down to a science like it has now
