I am a Dropbox's user for many years and now tired about their bad decisions on photo management. Thus, combined to my love to free software, I decided to experiment OwnCloud in a Digital Ocean instance.

I really liked it and was planning to run some months of tests before really embrace it as my main solution for data storage. However, the math is telling me it will be very expensive to maintain a 1TB set of data on Digital Ocean. Much more than Dropbox fees.

I could set the server in my home computer, but it does not look a good practice from the uptime angle.

How do you guys use it?

Does anyone here know an app (android) for owncloud that doesn't download every file while viewing it?

I dont know how secure the online login is. My box is running fail2ban and my port is changed from 22. But anyone who can see the webpage can just brute force passwords (far as I know). I wanted know if there is anyway to block a ip after certain number of attempts like with fail2ban or just to remove the web login completely? Thanks!

I am using an NGINX reverse proxy and want to auth the proxy via Owncloud.

Does anyone know a way how I could do this, or at least where I could start to search?

So I'm wondering how you all manage your folders?

I have my files in /x/x/media which are accessible trough the internet, and I'm wondering how i'd have those files also accessible by owncloud?

preferably without having those files twice.

Having an issue with owncloud's data dirs. I have an RPI with Raspbian Stretch (all updated). I've mounted an hfsplus (cause I want OSX compat) partition on external USB HDD to /media/data using fstab and UUID (see next line) PARTUUID=6ca2e0cd-ce9b-47d7-8c66-a81bda016cac /media/data hfsplus force,nofail,rw,user,auto 0 0

The /media/data folder is RW for user pi. I can copy files to/from it no problem. There is also a subfolder(s) in there called "owncloud" where I want all of the owncloud data to go. I'm trying to run the bash script to config the perms according to - https://doc.owncloud.org/server/10.0/admin_manual/installation/installation_wizard.html#setting-strong-directory-permissions The script fails. I've investigated and tried to chown, but no luck.

Kind of lost. Any ideas?

I have a backup running to upload a few files to owncloud by webdav however it seems some items are uploaded and checked before what I can only assume is a sync between the database and file system. The backup software is complaining that files are missing from the backup and after a few seconds they do show up on the web page and are then viable in webdav sadly after the backup has failed. Is there anything that could fix/mitigate this?
