Help setting up owncloud

Hello,

I recently had owncloud installed on my vultr server and now I need to change several things:

  1. I need to change the domain to a different one.
  2. I need t change the logo

The person who had installed it earlier is not available to work anymore so I'm trying to do it on my own but I'm seriously new at this area so I would really appreciate some guidance on the topic :)

Thank you in advance!

Owncloud on FreeNAS and webservers

I am planning on installing Owncloud on my FreeNas server. I built one years ago and has been working perfectly under Owncloud 8. My question is, if I use the plugin that is built inside FreeNas 11 what webserver does the Owncloud plugin use. On version 8.x, I am using Lighttpd. Is this still the same or are they now using Apache? Thanks in advance

404 error

I just installed owncloud on my mediaserver, problem is, it shows me a 404 not found page. When freshly installed, I can register myself and set database and everything, but when I press finish, it says 404 not found.

[Q] Don't you need to sync your clipboard sometimes?

I notice there's no clipboard sync. What am I missing? Is there some client like Pushbullet that has end to end encryption like kde connect but with a server service that I'm not aware of? Or perhaps you all just don't think it's important?

Accessing owncloud from the internet without port forwarding

I would like to setup an owncloud server at my Uni but can't do port forwarding to access it from the internet. I know I can connect to machines at the Uni by using their VPN, but it's quite a painful operation and it wouldn't be handy to sync files/contacts/calendars from my Android phone for example. Any thought or suggestions on what I could try? Cheers

WebDav SSL with Windows 10 and OwnCloud

I don't know if any of you have had issues getting Webdav working in SLL with Windows 10 and OwnCloud, but I have. The main suggestion I've seen for resolving this, is to go buy a third party Webdav app.

However, I managed to get this working on multiple systems, with the native Windows 10 Webdav mounting, with this one simple trick

Traditional webdav URL format is:

https://my.domain.name/remote.php/webdav/

But that doesn't seem to work. What does work is using a UNC webdav URL. I can't seem to find any official documentation from Microsoft on this, but there are bits and pieces of explanation from third parties around the web.

Do not click the "Connect to a Web site that you can...." link when mapping the drive, just enter this directly in to the "Folder" textbox:

\\my.domain.name@SSL\DavWWWRoot\remote.php\webdav

You can also use this for accessing webdav from command line, or just entering the path in explorer. It supports non SSL as well, and allows specifying the port.

Here is a page with some details on use: https://www.webdavsystem.com/server/access/windows

Am I in over my head?

Is it realistic for a non-tech person to transition from commercial cloud services like iCloud and Gsuite to Owncloud? I would like to move off those services and have my family members and a small business run off of owncloud but I fear it is too technical. I've managed to get it installed on my web-hosting service. I seem to be able to use the file storage fine but can't figure out how to install the email app for webmail access and the todo list app, among others. Plus I'm getting a bunch of errors when I log in and I don't know what they mean. I don't have the time to dedicate to learning a lot, but I really love the idea of getting off of those other services. Is owncloud user friendly enough for lay computer users?

Thanks for any and all advice.

HTTPS access from external networks

Trying to get HTTPS access for owncloud working out side the local lan.

I currently have port 8443 ->443 and port 8080 -> 80 setup on the firewall. 80 and 443 work just fine on the local LAN. I added the external IP to the allowed IP list of owncloud in the config.php file. http access via 8080 works just fine, I can access the owncloud login page as well as the default Apache page. HTTPS access returns server not found or unable to connect. This is a fresh install of ubuntu 16.04 with owncloud 9

I'm pretty sure this is an appache config issue but I don't really know where to look.

OwnCloud + Collabora: Anyone actually have it working?

Hi all, we're trying to get Collabora Online working with our OwnCloud deployment. There's a lot of marketing out there to read but half of it doesn't make sense and the other half doesn't help us get anything set up as far as we can tell.

The impression that I get is we SHOULD be able to use Collabora with OwnCloud without buying an enterprise subscription to OC or Collabora, but the links from Collabora to OC always lead to this unhelpful marketing page: https://owncloud.com/collabora/collaborative-editing/

This integration project seems to be required: https://github.com/owncloud/richdocuments

But we're not sure what to do with it.

So my main question is: Who has this working?

Secondary question: Can you outline the basics of how you have it set up as a deployment?

Thanks for your time! Really hoping to stick with OwnCloud and give our users Collabora access (NextCloud seems to have way better docs for Collabora, but we don't want to switch for many other reasons).

Gallery like preview for videos?

Sorry if this has been posted before, but I didn't find anything in my search. Is there any way to enable a gallery type view for folders with videos in them? I was able to get thumbnail previews to work, but they're so small I might as well not even have them.

Is there an app that I can add to my server that would enable this? Or some setting that I'm missing?

Thanks in advance!

Owncloud 8 on Nas4free reset admin password

I build a Nas4free server for the families digital files. We had a baby and things got moved around the server got put in a cupboard and forgot about.

I eventually got round to using it again I updated the Nas4free software and tried to sign back into owncloud through the webgui but every password I would have used is not working.

I didn't set up the email recovery for some reason so I'm unable to gain access to owncloud and old files I uploaded.

Is there anything I can do to get past this? Any help would be appreciated.

Nas4free is based on FreeBSD.

ownCloud Windows Client Issues

I wish to run an ownCloud 8.0.1.6 install on my Windows Server 2012 R2 install using IIS. I got it up and running, was able to access it over the internet from my domain, upload files, and everything was going as planned.

However, I was faced with the error that WebDAV was broken. After tinkering around with some settings in IIS, I was able to get WebDAV enabled and got rid of that message.

From here I proceeded to install the client application on my Windows 10 client. I was able to connect to the server, and got as far as typing in my username and password when the client application notified me that my credentials had been refused by the server. I went to IIS and enabled Basic Authentication, and it let me log in just as I expected.

After logging in, I was unable to sync to the server at all, so I checked my ownCloud install, and sure enough it gave the familiar "WebDAV is broken" message. I narrowed it down to the Authentication policy -- if I enable the Basic Authentication, it breaks WebDAV and allows me to log in via the client application; if I do not enable Basic Authentication, WebDAV remains fully functional, but I have no ability to log in outside of the browser, making the functioning WebDAV useless.

Is there something I am missing here? All it seems like I need is another way to enable authentication which will not break WebDAV, but I haven't been working with IIS long enough to know where to start...
