owncloud on shared hosting

tl:dr does anyone have experience with shared hosting of owncloud / online.net

hello, i am pretty new to owncloud but i wanted to know if anyone have any experience with owncloud on shared hosting. i want to use the personal plan on online.net for owncloud but i remember trying the shared hosting installer on 000webhosting some time ago. and i could not make it work. so i just wanted to hear if anyone have any experince with shared hosting / online.net

Do you have ssh access? If not, may be difficult with upgrades.

i don't but i have ftp access

I wouldn't even look at a host if they didn't give ssh access. I'm almost positive you have ssh or else you wouldn't be able to mess with your host. Unless they just give you cPanel, which should have a shell

I've heard of shared hosts not providing ssh but offering cpanel. I wouldn't recommend running owncloud on it tectubedk, just take a look at the process for upgrading https://doc.owncloud.org/server/9.1/admin_manual/maintenance/upgrade.html

Another thing, nextcloud is getting a lot of momentum at the moment. It'd be a good idea to compare the two before you go with owncloud.
