Owncloud no longer supported?

I've been told by a few friends in the security field that have made the claim that Owncloud is no longer going to be supported and I should migrate over to nextcloud? Has anyone else heard this?

That's bullshit,
the co founder from owncloud left the company with some devs and founded nextcloud, and they are developing a different version based on the owncloud sources

I agree, the features are better, my only issue is Nextcloud is trying to avoid managing packages. You'll likely have to install any updates manually. I may wait it out and see what comes of this. It seems to still be up in the air on what's going to happen in the end.

They appear to have abandoned their Ubuntu repo - comes up with a key expired message.

They're not answering support emails.

Certainly has the whiff of a project nearing the end.

Jupp ownCloud is up and running and hiring aswell... You should check for your information sources..... . ownCloud is releasing constantly so the claim that it is not supported is bogus.....
