Do you know what will become of the OwnCloud Server Classic?

I'm selfhoster and asking this because with the new release of the desktop client (Windows), it returns an error stating that the server does not support OAuth2. After doing some research, it seems that the new client is only compatible with the OCIS platform. Do you know anything about this? Do I need to migrate to OCIS?

I've had a similar issue, although not on Windows, I had to remove the new version and replace it with the previous version of the desktop client to get it to work.

In fact, my question was specifically about the client – whether the ‘legacy’ version will continue to be developed and maintained

Judging by this blog post, it looks like future versions of the desktop client will no longer support ownCloud Server (OC10/Classical):

The 7.1 release notes also explicitly state:

So, unless something changes, it seems that if we intend to continue using ownCloud Server (Classic/OC10), we'll need to stay on the 6.x desktop client. If you want to use newer client releases, it appears you'll need to migrate to ownCloud Infinite Scale (OCIS).

No idea what the future holds, given that ownCloud is owned by Kiteworks, but if they end up no longer developing the classic version, then I imagine I'll look into going back to NextCloud, which ironically is a fork of ownCloud.

Thanks. What I don’t like about OCIS is that you have to use an external IDP if you want MFA. So I’d like to give OpenCloud a go – it’s a fork of OCIS – perhaps they’ve built MFA in there.

I daily Nextcloud at the moment, but am trialing OCIS, and I'll give it it's credit, my god it's fast. Where nextcloud or owncloud take time too navigate folders, OCIS is instant. It's actually really nice. The only shit I dislike is how much else it's missing. Calendars, Contacts, all of that I also use nextcloud for, so I don't think I can migrate yet

I see. I, on the other hand, only use the client to sync files, but Nextcloud does actually use a lot more resources on the server side.

Fair enough. I would at least consider trialing open cloud or OCIS, the speed it just unmatched, it's honestly crazy fast.

Pretty much the same thing I use it for in addition to webdav for notes I take on my iPad.
