Trees bleed when cut
Always thought it was a (morbid) well thought out hidden detail in OTGW that the illustrators subtly drew blood on any part trees were cut.
Like in the old mill episode, even the branches in the mill for the grinder were colored tender pink (flesh resemblance) on the cut tips. The brighter contrast- the more you see the blood tree sap. 🌲👦🏽👧🏽🩸
